I think what I would like to do (when I have the money) is to get a dash unit that can interface with a laptop to act as a monitor, sound output, and touch control interface (if they make such a Head Unit). Then I would use the laptop to interface with the OBDII port and the Head Unit. The laptop would be mounted on a cooling pad underneath the passenger seat. That way it is easily removable and upgradeable. I would probably design my own applcation using Wonderware or other HMI.

Hey, a man can dream.

I went and found the page I was referring to...http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/work...tacoputer.html

It sounds nice, but I'd like to see some pictures. Everyone should go harass some photos out of him.

I wonder how you hook-up sound/speakers, gps and FM radio to this? Those are things I'd like to have with an in dash computer, but my understanding is limited. Don't blast me if this a stupid question...please

From the looks of it, it has all those plugs on the dongles in the back.

I would guess they are putting an external usb soundcard on the server then running a connector to a cable on an amp. Thats how I would do it.

I think I am going to go for an Infill G4 without HDD, drive and RAM:

I will put the right memory and hard-drive myself.

Anyway, I will have to remove the OEM dash with radio/CD. Then I'll use a double-DIN dash like the Scosche TA2053B in order to fit the G4.

Has anyone tried this yet? Do you have any idea what kind of problem I may go through with this plan?

Thank you.
Hey StephenM,

How is you computer working out. I seen your thread, and it got me thinking of adding a computer to my tacoma. Are you able to run GPS and DVD, and was the cost reasonable. I'm a computer junkie, and having one in my Tacoma would be sweet! Thanks!

Hey caz, it seems that most people start talking about it before they realize how big a pain the butt it is. To do something like this and have it be a good looking install is not easy. I came across this website. http://themeniscus.net/Interior/index.htm He posts a lot on customtacos.
