This doesn't really apply to the 8120, as that head unit has two USB ports. I've been told by a few people that using a USB hub is fine, just as long as one doesn't have two things plugged in at once.

Well, I accidentally left my thumb drive plugged in with MP3's when I last plugged in my Ipod to the Kenwood Ipod adapter. I haven't unplugged either of them since as my Kenwood 7120 doesn't seem to care that I have two things plugged in to a USB hub.

So if anyone was wondering, you can have them both plugged in.

I would presume it's okay as well. There's no reason to have more than two USB devices plugged in at once, which is why I said it didn't matter to the 8120 which has two USB ports, but the 7120 and 5120 both have a single USB. I added a USB hub so I could plug one or the other in without having to tear apart my dash, but accidentally left both plugged in, so I would give it a try because the operating system of the 5120 and 7120 is the same.
