I got mine from Wal-mart a few year ago. I had it in my F150 when I had it but it has been sitting in my garage for a few years since i got rid of that truck. It worked pretty good when I had it in the F150. I also had a lot bigger console so mounting wasn't an issue. The weather is a nice feature to have, and I think I would rater have it over the PA, but the PA is a nice option to have if you are really going to use it.

My scanner is a Bear Tracker BCT8

I was thinking about getting one of the compact ones but i met up with the previous owner of my truck last weekend and before i bought my truck, he had a PA and CB in her but took it out before i bought her. He gave me the PA speaker but no CB because he gave it to his friend. but he told me you need a big powerful CB radio to make the speaker be loud. I have the big PA speaker.

Oh forgot to mention I have a 3ft Firestik II antenna. I don't realy like the performance of magnetic mounts. I'm not sure how a 2ft would work, seems kind of small to me but then again I think my 3ft'r is a bit small. The bigger the better.

I put mine on the back of the center console by the cup holders. That back panel pops off and is strong enough to hold the cb. I ran the antenna wire trough the floor in one of the rubber plugs, I cut the plug and fit the cable trough it, and then came under the carpet and out by the seat mount.

Thats what I was thinking. I really just got it cuz it was 20 bucks. I wasnt sure what kind to get so I got this till I learn more. I was looking at a 4" fiberglass whip from vanco. I wasnt sure if it was a good one or what mounting hardware I needed so I got that magnet one to throw up in the meantime.

It would of been nice if we all had them at the mini meets

http://www.firestik.com/ Sells all the mounting stuff you could need. I'm thinking of getting one of the hood channel mounts. My F150 was an ex public services truck and had two antenna holes in the roof so I took the plug out of one of them and mounted the antena there, but I don'r think I will be cutting holes in the roof of my Taco.

If you want the best CB stuff go to your nearest truck stop. There are always antennas and mounting gear in stock.

Mounting on the back rail of a 2nd gen isn't a good idea unless you have a no-groundplane antenna setup. This will make you SWR too high and reception will not be prime, plus it could fry you rig. Read the FAQ on http://www.firestik.com/

I grounded it to the frame with a ground wire. And used a SWR meter in setup. I have on 2.6

That's exactly what I want. What parts did you need to mount it like that?

That's cool. I might have to look into that as an option then. But I still need to figure out where to moung the CB first.

Firestick Mount: I used a simple Aluminum 90 degree mount and used a couple of pieces of flat steel 1 inch by i inch with a 3/8 hole drill into it and a 3/8 nut welded to it and put those in the rail and used 3/8 bolts to mount it. I have the washers to to keep the top of the mount form being pulled into the rail. And used the extra hole to attach a ground wire the truck frame.

I went with a Cobra 75 WXST, in this thread. Badass unit albeit the PA function. Does have an output for an external speaker though. I had a Uniden Pro 520 for the Tacoma with a Wilson magnetic mount antenna (still have). Worked great but for the FJ I went with this little set up, I later upgraded to a 4' Firestik

Best advice I have is get a SWR meter and tune your antenna or have it tuned by someone with a meter.
