Question about Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS

Starting to upgrade my sound and Im pretty set on the X5500.
I was wondering though if I can use Google Maps on it through my android phone?

Also, what would be good speakers to pair with this headunit?

Im not interested in being super loud, just reasonably loud and good quality for my own enjoyment.
Would you recommend an amp and sub or just stick to the HU and upgraded speakers?

I know I will need adapter mounts for the front and rear speakers, and that I need to install an 8 gauge fused power cable to the sub and amp and then ground the sub and amp somewhere.
Also a faceplate for the HU. Anything else I should need?

 

Can anyone chime in with some feedback?

 

8AWG for power to the amplifier and subwoofer is too small. I'm thinking 6AWG minimum to a distribution block, then 8AWG to each component out of the block.

Those Polk speakers look to me like the ones that are awesome on paper and in practice disappointing. I have nothing to base this on except intuition.

I have no experience with Sound Ordinance either, but I wouldn't buy that amp with your money. I think you're better off with an affordable Alpine.

In my experience powered subs don't live up to expectation. Definitely go listen to that thing somewhere before you buy it. Consider a 5 channel amplifier and a component sub instead of a 4 channel amplifier and powered sub.

 

I think you need the 8500 model to get the "appradio" functions for android. If you really look into it, you'll see that on the lower end models, a lot of those cool features only apply to Iphone. I have the 2500, which is the same as the 5500 I believe as far as apps/compatibility, and I can't do anything thru the USB. I can connect via BT for phone stuff, audio over BT and pandora.

Even thru appradio, you are just using built in apps on the headunit, using the phone for gps and/or data connection. If you root your android, there appears to be something cool called ARLiberator, where you can basically turn your HU into a remote screen for your phone:

I looked into it when researching headunits, but ultimately said screw it and just got a basic double din unit. Me personally, I rarely use/need navi on the go on a daily basis, and I have a good garmin with lifetime map updates to use for big trips, etc. I feel the phone/car integration piece is coming along, but not quite 'there' yet to be extremely useful.
