Grinding the jack

2010 single cab. I have a box I would like to use, it will require grinding the 2 seat hook loops and the jack platform behind the seat.

What is the best way to do this? I would guess either Sawzall or a grinder. I'm leery of the grinder because it will give me a shower of sparks inside the truck.

Help?

 

For the hooks i drilled out the spot welds. i think there was three on each hook. For the jack holder i used a grinder but i did cover everything to avoid any damage that might have occurred from the sparks. Worked out just fine.

 

Good deal..tell me, what did you wrap it with? And did you grind top down or bottom up, or on the side? Just trying to build a picture of what to do so I don't mess it up..

 

I had to do a bunch of cutting for my sub box. Access cab tho so different scenario. But sawzall with a good metal blade over a grinder for sure if its possible to make the cut with a sawzall.

 

I used what i think are called a grinding blankets. A neighbor that does fab work in his garage let me borrow them. It was basically a thick fire resistant blanket. Other than that i dont know what you could use as there might be a chance the sparks could burn through the material and mess something up.

I think i hit it from a few different angles but mostly top down though. I am by no means a professional so don't put to much stock in my techniques.
