Like some of the other people have posted, I have a Pioneer Double Din and it sucks for daytime driving. The sun washes out the screen to the point that is dangerous for me to focus on it to read it. Unacceptable.

So now I'm going to ditch my X5500 and am looking into more options. I can't seem to find anyone complaining about the 2013 Kenwood Double Dins, but I thought I'd ask here because it appears that the Tacoma's do an equally poor job of protecting the HU from the sun that my Camry does.

    Thanks

I have an AVH-3300BT, no wash out issues that isn't normal for a LCD screen.

I just had my pioneer 8500 installed on Saturday....The unit sucks in the daytime, completely useless.....can't see anything during the day and I have tinted windows. I have a 2013 tacoma that had factory touch screen and the factory radio was 100 times better....no washout issues on factory, probably going to have factory radio put back in...

^ seriously? Why cant manufactures get this right?
It's one or the other. The display is perfect but the sound and features suck. The sound and features are great but the display sucks.

My Dnx9990hd is so frigging bright at night I had to actually cover the display with 20% tint to tone it down and that's even after I set it to its dimmest settings for night mode.

I can totally understand why you would want to go back to stock.

^i hear ya....did they connect the dimmer wire so the head unit dims when you turn on your headlights? Here is a picture of my unit during the day.....I took it so I could send it to pioneer....

^ that is not cool. Does your screen tilt forward more?

I just installed a kenwood DNX890HD. Get some sun glare but can always see the screen. Will get a pic tomorrow. But the screen is almost too bright at night at stock settings but holding the bottom left corner brings up the screen settings so it's easy to adjust quickly. A clean screen will help some. I use my oakley sunglass bag to clean it off.

    Ditto on my 6990.
Every now and then, the screen might be a bit washed out, but it's not bad. The blacks are black enough that it's generally readable unless it's totally glared out.

I wish the factory clock module was half as robust.

BTW Geem... you do know that you can change that yellow to an orange that matches the factory lighting.

even when turned full down... on dark highways at night i find the screen far too bright and distracting. they need to make these things capable of going so dim that only cats can see them at night.

    What brackets did they use?

If you use the stock metal brackets, the screen sits at an angle which causes tons of viewing issues.

If you use the ones that come with the kit it angles the deck correctly and it won't wash out.

hold down the TEL button it will overlay the brightness controls. i have mine FULL down at night, PLUS 20% static cling tint over the entire face, and its more liveable.
