So I built my box, ordered all my stuff. I started to install today and realized that I
    A) Didn't order the antennae adapter
    B) Not exactly sure how the OEM microphone ties into the aftermarket HU. Is that what the thick grey wire is that plugs at the bottom of the OEM HU? Or do I use the mic that pioneer includes which would kind of suck.

Any help is appreciated. I did search and came up with nothing.

    It's a pioneer 5500.

After I'm done I'll throw up some pics. The box was fun to build. Going to throw in two tens.

Oh and it's a 2013 non jbl if that matters

I do think you need to use the supplied mic with the hu...besides, its much better than the oem mic.
I mounted mine on my rear view mirror and I get no complaints from anyone...even with the windows down.

That's kind of what I was gathering. I was hoping there was an easier way since the whole install is taking forever. But what's another few minutes and running another wire when I have so much to do. Worth the money savings doing it all myself though. A local business wanted $900 just to install the HU. Crazy talk!!

X2 on the aftermarket mic. The installer initially put it on the steering column and said that it was the best location since its right in front of the driver's face. After 100% of the people I talked to complained about too much background noise, I moved the mic to its current spot directly above the rear view mirror. It came with a clip to clip it to the headliner and that's what I used. I haven't received a single complaint since moving it to that spot. It doesn't take too much extra time to put it there.

Thanks riverdog. I'll just continue with the install without worrying about it. I figured with the thirty other adapters I needed there would be another one available for the mic.
