I've never run into an issue with using my phone as a GPS unit in terms of data so I don't imagine this will make it much worse. Unless I start getting too much into pandora or Netflix...that would do lots of damage haha. And I completely agree on the cable cost! Ridiculous that you need so many damn $50 cables/adapters

fuck me, wish I saw this thread yesterday. I want a new touchscreen for my truck that blue tooths my gps and pandora since that is what I listen to the most. How is the sound quality from this unit? Only has front pre outs and a shared rear/subwoofer. Which is fine for my sound stage being a reg cab.

Only "AppRadio" certified applications can work with the AppRadio when in AppMode. So if you wanted to use an app like Google Maps, you would see it on the scren, but when you touch the screen it gives you a big red X.

AppRadio Extensions will automatically force your display to landscape so that it displays properly on the headunit, and it unlocks the other apps so you could use them too. They may not work 100% as well as say Waze, but they are totally usable. Nice to be able to say look at an email or compose one, or browse the web, etc. do things that you SHOULD HAVE been able to do from the beginning.

If you have an Android based phone there are items just like this called AppRadio Unchained aka ARU which is the most recent development. There is also AR Liberator, which has been around for a long time and works well, but the guy doesn't develop on it and its like $35-$40, so I say dont bother with that.

You dont NEED this stuff. I have an iPhone 5, AppRadio3 and I dont have my phone jailbroken yet and I can use it fine. Pandora works fine, Waze works fine, etc. But I wish I could say run "Spotify" on my phone and have it work from the headunit. It won't let me. In time though I will be able to :)

Did some searching and found this instead, better sound adjustablity and tuning with 4v pres vs the 2v and a full front/rear/sub stage as well. ALso has the app load abilities as the 3

Dash command works though a dongle that you hook up to your obd 2 plug in your truck. Then it talks wirelessly to your phone then gets displayed on the head unit. It tells you speed, rpm, lots of different temps, and has some pretty cool features.

Does anyone know if the SQ of App Radio 3 is better than version 1/2? Appradio 1/2 had horrible sound output. From what I can see, 3 isn't any better.

I have the 2 and the sound is better than stock even with my passenger door speaker blown.

I installed the 2 and took it out after 10 min of listening to it on my setup, which is far from stock. It sounded HORRIBLE.

A cold wet fart will produce better sound than the stock stereo system.

I dont think it has Capacitive Touch Screen.

I love that... It is like your iphone. Glass. Not the plastic stuff.

AP3 is "multi touch" so you can do pinch/squeeze.

I had the AVIC-Z140BH which is 2012 flagship. It had AppMode. Not as good as AR3 even though they SAY it is. Totally diff

Yes it had 4V, yes it had 3 sets, all that... but i am WAY happier with the AR3.

AR2 is the same as AR3 except that you cannot do A2DP bluetooth streaming on AR2 with your devices.

It can be convenient to just click Bluetooth on the headunit and play music from your phone. But if you hook up the cable, then they are the same.

I dropped loot and I am happy.
    AR3
    JL C5-650x component separates (front)
    JL C2-650 2-way (rear)
JL Stealthbox which has 10" sub (behind rear seats). This thing fits beautifully! No cutting and hits hard and sharp. Course it is a lot of $$$
    JL XD700/5 amp
    JL remote sub amp control

And of course all the top wiring, RCA's, speaker brackets, all that.
My system sounds great, everyone who is in my truck comments on how crystal clear it is and how mids, highs and bass are so balanced. I love it.

The AR3 does have some issues, it does... But, all-in-all i am happy. Would I consider AR4 next year if it fixes more, SURE. for $399, why not!

My co-worker has AR3 and an HTC One phone and has AppRadio Unleashed (ARU) on his phone and it is way cool. His phone is displayed on the screen perfectly. He can launch any app, do anything, etc. REal nice feature I wish I had on my iphone, but I cant yet (iOS no jailbreak yet)

Last comment: Look on YouTube for my video. It's from the day after I installed the AR3, but you can see I walk you through listening to iPod music (on my iPhone 5), Waze, settings, Radio, steering wheel control, etc.

I'll post a new one once I get my iPhone 5 jailbroken. I know a lot more of the tips/tricks with AR3 now that I've had it, but not worthy of another video.

I'll take better sound quality over being able to do gay apple pinch squeeze shit.
