I have looked and can't find anything on it, but I am wondering if anybody can tell the difference between a Pioneer AVH-X3500bhs and the Appradio 3 ? What does one do that the other won't? Thanks

    Hi Heath,

Here is a link to a comparison on the two.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Prod...30X350BHS&compareItems=01|130SPDA210&g=168550

Big differences are that the x3500 is $300 and the AppRadio3 is $500. The x3500 has a smaller screen, but has HD radio and SirriusXM radio. It also has 6 preouts if you plan to ever add amps to your system. Two outs for Front and Rear and one dedicated subwoofer. The AppRadio only has a front and rear however the rear can be switched to a sub out. The x3500 has a aux input as well as the appradio relies completely on your iphone or android being connected. The Appradio has some cool apps but again relies heavily on your phone constantly being connect.

I recently had to make the decision myself on which to get and I would suggest the avh-x5500. It has similar features to the x3500 but features a 7" screen like the AppRadio3 and is currently $400. I have had it for about a month now and am extremely happy. I would also highly suggest getting your stuff from Crutchfield. They were fantastic and sent the dash kit and harnesses for free. However, you will notice that it states the x5500 will not fit in a second gen taco. It will without any modifications. They for some reason aren't keen on anything with a motorized face fitting in the 2nd gen taco.

Wow, realized reading back through that, that I have become a Crutchfield and Pioneer salesman. Guess if the day job doesn't work out.....

Feel free to DM me with any further questions. Hope this helps!

There is also a $400 version of the AppRadio 3 that doesn't have a DVD/CD drive. If your iphone is jailbroken then you can plug your phone into the appradio 3 and control literally everything. Although you're looking at $100+ worth of cables if you have an iphone 5.

If you are wanting more of a dedicated radio then I agree with the 3500/5500 suggestion, but if you will basically just use your phone then I think the appradio would be sweet

Thanks a lot!! That pretty much made my decision on what to get. I'm getting this for my son to put in his 07 tacoma which he already has an amp and subs in so that narrows that down to the 3500.

    another thing to note:

AppRadio3 is the only one with a capacitive touch screen that is multi-touch capable.

Basically, it is like your iPhone/iPad/Android device in that it is glass that you touch. The other headunits use a resistive touch screen. You know it because there are layers of material with gaps in between. When you touch the screen you push harder and the layers touch and it senses your touch. This is not multi-touch capable.

Yeah Its strange how that happens. I Can't believe how often I have pushed people to go to Crutchfield to get there car stereo equipment.

Got it all installed and it works great. The metra kit turned out nice and my son loves it. He's 18 and it's like the day he got his drivers license, he don't mind to run errands for us again. I'm sure that will wear off soon. Thanks again for the info on it.

How do you like the fitment of the metra kit? Getting ready to install the same head unit.

It fits real nice. There is a hairline gap around the radio and the dash kit. You have to look real close to see it. If you put a light behind the dash you would probably notice it but since it's dark behind it, you can't see it. Scouche makes one also, maybe someone who has used Scouche can chime in. I've heard some say they like Metra better and others say they like Scouche better. My local Best Buy happen to keep Metra in stock. Hope that helps you
