So I recently discovered my 09 access cab has a back up camera in the tailgate handle. It isn't hooked to anything currently. I want to hook it up, can I purchase a mirror with the screen in it etc that's oem? Is it a simple project and what would the cost be? I'm wondering if it's something I can do my self, I'm fairly inexperienced.

Post a pic of your mirror. You may not need one.

Oh ok. You need one. You need to see if the wiring is there as well. Most likely it is. But the previous owner may have taken it out if he took out the mirror.

Where should I look for the mirror, you know if there's an oem that's easy to install and fits?

thanks Adio, I went to that thread, and they were saying that all 09 tacomas were prewired for the camera, only thing needed was a mirror. Ill look and see if the plug is tucked in front of the overhead console. Likely underneath the carpet or you think I might need to pull anything back?

Thanks for the awesome info, super helpful!

Best thing to do is remove the overhead console and take a peek.

ill have to give that a shot, sorry for asking so many questions, but is that pretty easy and tool free? I have installed head units etc and other parts in old crappy cars, and my old 01 tacoma was fine stock, so i never changed anything. This ones the first one I bought completely on my own, so I am a little skiddish.

    Pretty easy to remove.

    Open the sunglasses holder.
There's 1 screw that's holding the overhead console. Unscrew that.
Pull gently from the front(windshield side) there's two clips holding it in place.
That's it. If you can't find any of the clips, they came off and most likely their up there.

Ok, sorry. Back from the dead. What if I'm not prewired, got a part number for me?
