Thanks so much for your help, I just make this connection to a costumer, I install a Pioneer 2600, I also use the aux connection in the car, I cut a aux cable and connect it to the harness.

In this case the yellow wire is the ground, the white and red are the audio positive

If you use the wire shown in this post to trigger your Pioneer and to power your 12v to 6v converter everything should work properly. That wire only has 12v on it while the vehicle is in reverse.

So your Pioneer stays in "reverse" mode? Does the camera continue to produce an image on the Pioneer screen? Is your camera the Tacoma OEM (was there from the factory like mine was)?

Did you check that the red (reverse) wire you connected to only has 12vdc on it when you put the truck in reverse?

I have the factory camera. I can manually turn it off on the stereo. I checked the red wire that I tapped the trigger wire to & it is only hot when it is in reverse.

So I guess the camera actually powers down when you take the truck out of reverse, and you have a blank screen displayed on your Pioneer?

On page 67 in the manual for your Pioneer it states "To stop watching the rear view camera and return to the source display, press and hold MUTE."

I guess this is what you're currently doing to return the display to normal. Maybe this is the only way the Pioneer functions to exit reverse mode. You'll have to find someone else with that same (or similar) stereo to know for sure. On my JVC when I take the truck out of reverse the power to the camera is cut, and the JVC automatically returns to normal operation. The Pioneer must be different?

I have a 2011 and just had Car Toys install an Alpine INE-W940 . I am going to have to tackle this mod soon. They wanted an additional $200 to run the cam to HU and another $150 to allow my steering wheel radio controls to work with the new HU. I will have to find that thread as well...

    Great thread, thanks for sharing

I have been having troubles with this mod since day one. The camera works fine and the picture is displayed in my kenwood dnx9990hd. The issue is I have picture for about a minute in reverse and then the picture disappears.. If I dissconnect either of the video cables and then re attach them the picture comes back.. For another minute.. Once I start my truck it will only work for the first time I reverse and then every time after if wont come on unless I dissconnect either the red or black video cables??? Any ideas anyone? All the cables are hooked up like in this thread but the only difference is that my screen on my back up mirror no longer works which is the reason I'm trying to get this one working 100%

Unless you have a power switch the power goes off after 1 minute of not being in reverse

I've read through several threads concerning being wired up to the radio for a backup camera. Here is the delima I have with my '15 truck. I show 4 wires going out of the connector but as I peeled back the conduit, , the wires end in a white tape and coming out the other end appears to be a coaxial cable (slit it open to look inside. I've attached a photo to show what I'm seeing. Does this mean I'm a no go for the wiring and need a supplemental harness? Sorry for the photo quality.
