So I built a sub box for my 01 extra cab and had the amp all wired in... When the guy at audio express saw the box, he said t was to small and could blow out the sub? Is this truer? Do I have to make the box bigger or will the one I have be fine? I haven't tried it yet bit don't want to blow out the sub cause it was expensive lol...

Note: the box actually sits on the hump between the seats and thee is only about an inch between the bottom of the sub and the mdf.

    Here's some pictures

Need more info, whats the recommended air space for the sub? To get the right size box get L X W X H=TOTAL / 1728. Its the formula to figure out the air space

Ok I will measure it tomorrow. What if the air space is less than the recommended?

Depends on how less it is, the sub should have the recommended air space on the paperwork in the box. Its got to be significantly smaller to hurt the sub. Also depends how much power you got to it. I had 3 12's in my Cherokee in a ported box and blew all 3. With the windows up and the amp cranked I could literally make the back window and roof suck in with the amount of air that shit moved.

Just eyeballing it, I think you'll be alright if you "port" it.

what model kicker is that? you should be able to look up how much airspace it needs.. you can also find out if it was designed for a sealed or ported box.. assuming that is an 8 inch it looks like you should be fine to me. but definitely check to see if you are close to the manufacturers recomendations..

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I've purposely put woofers in smaller than recommended enclosures to get 'tighter' bass. It will just be less efficient than optimal (overall lower sound volume)

What is "tighter bass"? I'm asking because I'm more into sound quality than just being loud.

Ok I measured the inside of the box and entered it in to get the cubic feet
    ygaja3en_d7ec77c0559e3fef2b754e6bb36a3d8c468bcc7a.jpg

The sub is a kicker comprt 8in. The recommended volume in cubic feet is .2

Here's a picture of the Inside if that helps at all it is 8 in wide x 10.5 in long x 2.5 in tall. These measurements are without the thickness of the mdf (3/4)

You can just drill a hole, but you can also do a "tuned port". Sorry, I don't know the calculation for a tuned port.

wow that is super shallow, from the side view it looks a lot deeper. it will still work, but you wont get the most out of your sub with that small of a box.. also i wouldnt push too much power into it in its current setup..

your box is greatly undersized. it's half the recommended volume not even taking sub displacement into account. i would definitely build a bigger box.

will it work in your existing box? sure. will it sound like complete crap? yes.

you will get very little low end extension in that small of a box that you will probably get more "bass" output from the midbass speakers in your front doors.
