I found the best speakers!!!

Too bad they rattle the crap out of my access doors! I have already dynamatted and am looking for any other options or suggestions. I am running the MB Quart all the way around. Excellent speakers, we just have weak doors.

 

not the doors, its the baffles the speakers are mounted on. You can pick up a good set at ********* or make your own out of MDF wood

 

And that would eliminate the rattling?

 

hopefully, that was/is my problem. especially if you have dynamatted and still have the rattling, my guess would be the baffles. What baffles did you use?

I used the stock baffles if any. I am trying to dynamat more and even dynamat the seatbelt contraption because most of the rattling is coming from there. I', also filling the doors woth poly-fil which will hopefully help. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to purchase the baffles and if that doesn't help then i am S.O.L. unless anyone has any other suggestions???

 

you can dynamat the rear of the plastic panel and this can help with vibrations. Also if you do get some baffles put a layer of non-hardening modeling clay between the baffle and the metal and tighten them down and this will eliviate some of the rattles

Once I find where the rattle is coming from I use the little stick on felt discs between the surfaces to eliminate the noise. (you can find them at the hardware store or Walmart)

 

Are there stock baffles? The poly-fil and the dynamat helped but I can still hear a little rattling. I've heard you're the expert, Mr Marv, so what else are your reccomendations. It's slight rattling and I don't know if I'm being a perfectionast but when I turn it up louder than necessary, it does rattle, and occasionally with a dee bass song.

 

The stock baffle is actually part of the stock speaker. Did you just cut the old speaker out and screw the new one to that? If so I would start by replacing it with the proper baffle. Also, since you mentioned "when I turn it up louder than necessary, it does rattle, and occasionally with a deep bass song" I'm thinking there is a possibility the noise is coming from the speaker itself (some speakers can experience "tinsel lead slap" or you could be on the verge of bottoming it out from pushing it too hard or trying to play it too low). BTW, what size speaker is it and where is your high pass filter set?

 

I am currently running 6.5 MB Quart mid range drivers that come with their own crossover. I'm also running 6X9 cMB Quart components in the front and I love th sound they produce. Since they both come with crossovers, I turned the high pass filter off on my head unit.
I had them installed through a car audio place so I don't know if they used any baffles at all???

 

The passive crossovers that come with the components do not provide a high pass for the mid so you need to turn that filter on in the headunit (or on the amp) to reduce the amount of bass going to speakers that are not designed to play that low.

 

as mentioned, the rattle is most likely the baff issue or maybe you didnt tighten it all the way, a little loose and with some bass it will rattle. also make sure all your clips on the door are on. if they arent you will rattle like crazy

 

The poly-fil and dyno mat pretty much covered the rattling. When I turn it up while the windows are open on the freeway and I get off the freeway, I can hear the rattling. It doesn't bother me aymore but Do you all think it's worth it to get some baffles anyway?
