Trying to wire a Alpine PDW 1000w mono amp to 3 JL w3 10'' subs. The problem is that when I turn the volume up on the bass the amp auto protects and turns off the subs, I was told that probably it was wired wrong so what you guys think it is the problem? Also bought 14 gauge cable and fused terminals.
Uploading pics while installing new terminals.

Read this first..shows different ways to wire your stuff.

    http://www.termpro.com/asp/pubs.asp?ID=124

I'd need to know the subs you have, in particular the Ohm rating on them.

Looking at the amp quickly it is 2Ohm stable. You might be running it down to 1Ohm with your current wiring which is going to put your amp in protect mode.

That link I posted will guide you well.

    Is this your amp?

    http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/pdx-11000/

If so, not happening. Your amp is only stable down to 2Ohm. That load of less than 2Ohm will damage your amp long term, plus you'll have the same problems you have now. Note the "Warning" on the diagram.

    Your options would be:

Wire 2 of the subs in that parallel configuration. Can't use the 3rd.

Buy another amp that is 1Ohm stable and keep the 3 subs.

    Yes that's my amp
So I can only connect 2 subs? Like this?

Ok so I only connected 2 subs, sounds way better. Didn't find a button or something to change independence so I assume the amp does it automatically, Last thing to do is tune these knobs. How should I tune them?

    That's the way..

The amp is a mono, so regardless of how many speakers you hook up you'll get both the left and right from each speaker.

The gain you want to turn the radio up about 3/4 of the way. Turn the gain up till you start to hear distortion, then back off a tiny bit.

Not familiar with the other 3, I'll have to do a little more digging.

    OK found it:

For the SELECT switch, you need to determine the output of your head unit. My guess is the 1-8 volt but merely a shot in the dark.

LP FILTER is at what point you want it to stop allowing the frequency through. The lower the #, the lower the tone it will block at. My advice is start at the highest setting and play with it from there to what your personal taste is..can't damage the amp with that.

SUBSONIC FILTER, I'd go with none or 15HZ. Alpine recommends the 15 when using subs such as 10" bass speakers if the sound seems less distorted versus the none setting. 30HZ is for ordinary speakers (such as a mid bass).

I'm taking a stab you don't have the instruction sheet with this amp. I found it at the link below, only 2 pages so it will download fast..this is where I got the information I listed on this post. I saved a copy in my email, you can either PM me your email and I'll send it or search for Alpine PDX-1.1000 manual at this link:

    http://www.retrevo.com/search/v2/jsp/mytrevo/myTrevo.jsp?page=man

Sorry for the delayed response. Here in MA we've gotten over a foot of snow so I've been dropping in between snowblower runs :)

I'd see how you like the sound of it and go from there as to your ultimate solution. You may be satisfied as is with the 2 subs. If so, you've got a spare sub in case one pops or can sell one. If not, sell or trade your amp for another. Just make damn sure if you go that route that the new amp is 1Ohm stable. If it is, use the diagram for the 3 subs you posted and you'll be golden.

Keep me posted how it sounds once you mess with the other 3 settings..

Since he has the 3 subs in 2 boxes.. If the box with 2 subs is wired in parallel, then wire the 2 boxes in series to the mono amp, wouldn't it bring the impedence over 2 Ohm? Not sure what the watts per sub would be, still need to do the math.

Toss it back to the 0-1 then if that sounds better..

How are you liking it so far?
