The same shit everyone else has.
I've spent weeks researching and collecting information from different threads and other members on here. Most of these threads have bits of scattered information which is hard to keep track of. I'm making this thread to share all the information I've collected in one organized place.

First off, I've gotten a lot of good information from other members - Jerez, FLTrucks, adio, and ajw1986 just to name a few. Without their help, I would have never been able to get everything sorted out. Thanks guys

Here are some of the threads I collected information from -

    THE BACKGROUND -

The radio is a non JBL touchscreen unit out of a '14 Tacoma. It has navigation, USB, and bluetooth. I will be installing this radio into a '11 non JBL Tacoma with steering wheel controls, backup camera, and auxiliary jack.

    THE GOAL -

My goal is to install the '14 touchscreen radio and make it function 100% as intended from the factory. The goal is to have use of the navigation, the apps, the bluetooth, the USB jack, the 3.5mm headphone jack, the backup camera, and the steering wheel controls.

THE PARTS LIST RUN DOWN -

    Radio -

I purchased mine used from another member on this forum. I received the radio, the mounting brackets, the bezel, the clock/hazard/airbag assembly, the XM unit, and the XM harness. I did not receive the push pins, the mounting bracket bolts, or the bezel screws - I sourced these from the hardware store and posted the info below.

Another option for the radio - FLtrucks seems to be a very popular vender to purchase the radio from on this forum.

    Navigation antenna -

    [IMG][IMG]20131003_164545_zps694fd07e_22b7a3fa35b62a82b93e99389fb9e2effd4701ff.jpg

Part number - 86860-0C010. I purchased mine from FLtrucks, as he had the best price on them. This antenna picks up the signal for the navigation.

    USB conversion cable -

Part number - PT546-00120-US or Ebay part "Axxess AX-TOYUSB Select Toyota & Lexus OEM USB FEMALE Retention Adapter". The OEM unit is about 4 times more expensive than the Ebay unit. This part converts the Toyota radio USB plug into the traditional style USB plug. From here, you can run a USB cable of your choice to your choice of location.

    USB/AUX Port -

Ebay part - Flush mount USB Aux 3.5mm headphone jack mounting panel dashboard dock input lead. This is an Ebay piece. I was going to use the Tundra USB/AUX port, but couldn't justify the money. This piece is about 3x cheaper than the OEM one and does the same thing. This allows you have the AUX and USB ports in the same location on the dashboard.

    USB Splitter -

Amazon part - Plugable USB 2.0 2 port hub. This is a piece I picked up from Amazon. I wanted to keep the USB plug in the glove box that way I could leave my iPod hidden and not have the cable laying in the center console. I also wanted to be able to use the USB port on the dashboard to charge my iPhone. This piece splits the USB off the radio into 2 channels allowing me to run 2 USB plugs.

    AM/FM Antenna adapter -

Part number - PT546-00120-AD or Metra 40-LX21. The Metra part is about 4 times cheaper than the OEM part and does the same thing. This part allows you to plug the OEM '11 antenna into the new radio.

The blue wire is for a power antenna, which I do not have. I just depinned the wire.

    20/28 pin harness adapter -

Part number - PT546-00120-CH. This part connects the '11 20 pin harness to the 28 pin plug on the '14 radio. The 20 pin harness works the steering wheel controls, 3.5mm auxiliary jack, and speed sensor. The bluetooth mic also plugs into this harness (the remaining 8 pins). I purchased mine from Camelback Toyota as they had the cheapest price.

    Bluetooth mic -

    [IMG][IMG]

Part number - PT546-74120-MC. The bluetooth mic works the bluetooth/voice controls. It plugs into the 20-28 pin adapter. I purchased mine from Camelback Toyota as they had the cheapest price.

Bracket to radio mounting bolts -

    86C5F74E-5369-4968-B026-C26F63F0A189_zps_b47a02b1a4c83895dda2b9de48236d082bb6e63e.jpg

The radio I purchased did not come with these screws. I reused the 8 off the old radio. I purchased 4 replacement ones from the hardware store for the satellite radio unit. They are m8x10mm long machine screws.

Bracket to bezel push pins -

    6147A4FD-6F61-41BB-8AAA-59E45D4A1635_zps_c1bb34eb2cf28096b9ccad79b8b30aea6d103ca1.jpg

The radio I purchased did not come with these plastic pushpins. I purchased 2 replacement ones from the hardware store. These connect the radio bezel to the mounting brackets. They are 3/16" diameter x 5/8" long & have a 7/16" diameter head.

Radio bracket to bezel screws -

    7FB56D5B-484B-4440-B63D-CC82C77A3667_zps_00c343523bb649182c7c7b884dd5d4d223791860.jpg

The radio I purchased did not come with these screws. I purchased 2 replacement ones from the hardware store. These connect the radio bezel to the mounting brackets. They are 8x1/2" screws.

I have yet to order the steering wheel control retrofit parts so I cannot comment too much on them, but here is the DIY I am following for information -
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ed-steering-wheel-audio-controls-my-08-a.html

    Bluetooth/voice control switch -

    C296E1B7-CD9B-4481-BE6D-B435BD26A3DA_zps_b0b09d4fe539b3eae11b516ea0d0991d02caced2.jpg

Part number - 84244-35030-B0. These steering controls allow you to use the bluetooth/voice command functions. I haven't priced out or purchased this part yet.

Steering wheel switch control ribbon cable -

Part number - 84204-58010. This cable connects the bluetooth/voice controls to the controls on the left side of the wheel. I haven't priced out or purchased this part yet.

    Dashboard center panel bezel -

Part number 55405-04050. I purchased mine used from a member on this forum. They can be had for pretty reasonable price.

    24 pin radio plug -

Part number 90980-12554. This is the female plug that plugs into the radio and is used for the backup camera. I haven't purchased this plug yet.

    INSTALLATION DIY :

    THE INITIAL SHAKEDOWN -

Upon receiving the new radio, I removed the existing radio to compare plugs.

Plugs R1 & R2 matched, so I plugged them in.

    310C0753-8F6B-482E-916F-335E0D35391C_zps_e973a0f2c3916a3ad25eebfded96cac1b7ab759c.jpg

The radio turns on and the CD player works, but that's about it. No AM/FM reception, BT, nav, ect.

When first fitting the radio, I noticed the '14 radio bezel fits the '11 and older dashboard surround pretty well, but not 100% perfect, which is kind of disappointing. There is a small gap along the sides and a large gap along the bottom near the HVAC controls.

I purchased a spare dashboard center panel bezel to modify to fit the '14 radio better.

    UPDATE (3/5) -

My AM/FM antenna adapter and GPS antenna showed up on Tuesday, so I decided to reinstalled the radio again, except with these parts this time to see what happens.

Everything functions properly except the steering wheel controls, the auxiliary jack, the USB, and the bluetooth microphone. The navigation and AM/FM radio now work.

    652DA7D1-6CB4-490E-A7AE-EFEA826FA4D1_zps_abc32d442d242c73c3aef24a43f4e6df6ddb3b38.jpg

Initial thoughts after a day of use -

The navigation is awesome. Its pretty accurate within about 15ft. The sound quality of the '14 radio is amazing compared to the '11 radio. Even without the 20-28 pin adapter harness and bluetooth mic installed, I like this radio way better than the '11 radio.

    UPDATE (3/7) -

My USB adapter showed up today.

    DB72070E-6F2F-4D44-953E-6F5477EC16F4_zps_fb06dbbc44a2d9a5097068ca376dba8b0385fdf6.jpg

    Its the 13$ Ebay adapter.

Initially, I planned on doing the Tundra USB/AUX port retrofit posted here - http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/au...tereo-input-tacoma-aftermarket-head-unit.html

So I went ahead and plugged the USB to Apple 30 pin cable to simulate the way the Tundra USB/AUX port worked.

    8C17B18E-2520-4107-A4BB-DD2E48AE9317_zps_9414d8403699858a383a39cf6cee31bbbb414ad0.jpg

It will charge my iPhone, but it will not play music from Spotify, Pandora, or any internet radio. This does me no good. The USB just acts the same a 12v phone charger, which I already have 2 of in the center console.

Scratch the Tundra USB/AUX retrofit. I'll save the 75$ and use it towards the steering wheel controls.

So I hooked the USB adapter up to my iPod Nano 4, it charges and the iPod will play through the headunit. You can control the iPod via the head unit.

    5675378F-3F51-4E4D-B8B6-839B1C2E18E6_zps_c488f7f951c32d207f36daba68be8b287beb0a7d.jpg

Perfect. Once I sorted this out, I decided what the next step was. Instead of having the USB exposed, I simply ran the cable behind the dashboard and into the glove box where I put the iPod.

It keeps the cable and the iPod out of the way and hidden, while still allowing me access to the 30 pin connector.

Eventually, I plan on running a male USB to female USB cable into the glove box. Maybe I'll install a bulkhead where I can plug in the USB to 30 pin, a thumb drive, a USB to lightning cable, or a USB to a micro USB.

    UPDATE - (3/9)

My 20-28 pin adapter and bluetooth mic showed up on Friday -

    304EA33E-8E1A-4C71-9671-6BD0D9FEC0E0_zps_9786138ca9f4d5af5919da8bacefd4a37d767d54.jpg

This was the last piece of the puzzle I needed.

Here is everything plugged in in the backside of the '14 radio; its pretty messy, but it works -

    BDE2A966-507D-42F1-BE87-E99C471F4AF0_zps_2dec5ad76fc6dfcff76a25a570aa7e396ab53128.jpg

Here is where I mounted the bluetooth mic -

    B83E56BB-B0B7-443C-9FA1-E4625229006C_zps_66487589a018260f3723ec19960c6db5cadc22fd.jpg

I got the center dashboard finished and installed. Here's the final product. I turned out OK, but I would like to redo the bezel -

    9414316E-4CCA-4B7F-8B0B-A79216B48081_zps_cb70a4caffc178395c72e1acdc352e3b169f966b.jpg

Now that the BT and 20-28 pin harness are hooked up, everything works just as it should. The steering wheel controls work, the auxiliary jack works, and the bluetooth functions works.

I still need to sort out the backup camera and order the correct parts, as well as the rest of the steering wheel controls.

    Final thoughts -

I have just over 500$ into the current setup. I love it. The navigation seems to be almost spot on. The use of my iPod is nice. Having the bluetooth capability paired with my iPhone is great. I can now listen to Spotify without have the auxiliary cable wrapped around the shifter. The HD radio is nice as well.

    Well worth the cost.

    BONUS INFORMATION -

Fitting the '14 bezel to the '11 dashboard -

After dicking around with fitting the new radio bezel to the old style surround, I was unhappy with how it fit.

    The top fits fine -

    FD02877B-8B27-4F64-9654-F437CB7A63A1_zps_fecc789cbc690c55572f450034688991b01273a5.jpg

The bottom, not so much -

    7F64171B-F146-4B70-9CE0-B70D5658354D_zps_b6c280414f5958983ab589a2d6242aa0fed22913.jpg

The lower radio bezel doesn't clip into the dashboard surround -

    6C2F5B3A-FF0E-4DD9-B117-FB9104A70B69_zps_ac27a00df6e02d6b3aca48118ef6cb4dacbaa661.jpg

The sides of the bezel hit the surround, this is why the bottom clips don't fit -

    FDD599D0-BCAB-4569-939E-A06C7E8DC5F7_zps_d435d91fc4780a5a60c65c570c9c4a6ada702e86.jpg

You can see how far the bezel sticks out past the surround -

    06702ADE-3DFE-4DA5-8AE1-BC8966C57447_zps_2a27de3cec272f3cd509e9dcc4e2c2da7a0dfcad.jpg

This is what needs trimmed for the bezel to sit better -

    85D27AD1-5FE5-4D03-9B5A-56A27FA27A02_zps_23372e8ac44a2205dec4e37265b05234be253356.jpg

This is what it looks like trimmed -

You can see the difference the trimming makes on the right side -

The bottom clips in and sits flush now -

    20FFBC35-7B0A-48A4-B502-7E730F79F755_zps_d5d1290c22317ab156beffec25517b7ccf041f93.jpg

You can see how much more flush the bezel sits now -

Here's what it looks like with the radio in the bezel -

You can see the gap along the bottom side has closed up a good bit.

I'll update with better finished pictures of the bezel install tomrorow.

I think the backup camera goes into the 20/28 pin conversion.

    UPDATED

You would need an interface that converts it from the RCA style plug to the Tacoma male plug.

Not sure if this is it exactly, but this would be something to look into.

This is the best work I've seen on the 2014 Nav radio - you're doing this piece by piece and learning what each plug does for output. Hopefully I'm in line soon for my HU. My bank account is scared at the long parts list though lol

The same shit everyone else has.

Thanks. I struggling trying to take in all the information scattered around the forums.

Its actually not all the expensive. i have just over 500$ into mine. the only parts I dont have are the camera plgus, the BT/voice control steering wheel switch, and the ribbon cable to connect that switch.

Those parts should be around another hundred dollars.

All said and done, Ill have around 600$ into this retrofit.

Thanks! None of this could be done without you hooking me up with the radio

Thanks. When you get one, you'll love it.

Only word of advice is is to purchase everything at once.

    UPDATE -

Its been install for over a week now and everything seems to be working just fine.

Some times switching between the BT on my phone and my GF's phone is a pain in the dick because the phones wont find the the radio unless you remove the current device for the new one.

I still cant get Etune to work either.

If I ever remember to charge my camera, I'll take some non iPhone pics.

I'm pretty sure I saw someone on these forums that confirmed it does fit in the blanks next to the power outlet. My only question is how do you plan to wire the aux jack. The factory one has an extra wire. I'm not exactly sure what the wire is for except maybe its a signal wire that tells the head unit if an aux plug has been connected to the jack :notsure:
