Not sure this is at all helpful but is it plugged in completely? I don't always do a good job of plugging things in and if it's not plugged in all the way it's wimpy as hell.

its the limits on the HU itself.
To fix it you pretty much have to get a new HU

I have the JBL package and if I turn my Aux source volume all the way up, it works pretty good for me.

That's the thing tho you should never really max out Yur radio.because at a certain point it starts distorting.say you have a head unit that maxes out at 40 Yu might start distorting at lower volumes.so you might end up going to 38 out of 40 before your music starts clipping and sounding horrible .only way to fix that is to upgrade .

I don't max out my radio volume (head unit), I max out the auxiliary source's volume (iphone/droid/whatever). That seems to work just fine for me. No issues with audio quality.

The real question here seems to be this:
When listening to native sources on the factory HU such as CD or FM can you "max out the volume" without distortion? In other words, is your source volume drastically different between the CD, FM, Aux?

Thank you everyone. I figured it was a head unit thing. My tuner volume is pretty loud, cd is just okay volume, aux lousy.
Anyone know the stats of the factory Hu ( watts, or max power) so when I buy a new one I don't cheat myself.

I have the same problem. Anyone have luck with an in-line amp and speaker upgrade for the stock HU?

The issue is the aux plug/ head unit combo. I just put in a new head unit and now there is minimal difference is sound between a cd and the aux. better off new head unit.
