Oh yeah, I can get 'em loud. But they are musical as well. They sound just as good cranking out Beastie Boys as they do Led Zeppelin. Color me happy.

Do you know how much clearance you had left after the subs were mounted?

About a 1/2". You could probably stuff a couple Alpine Type R 12's back there. Those are massive baskets, but there should be room for them.

So with the subs to max. volume of 27 on my deck(out of 35), I can tell the subs are working hard. They shake the rear seats of the truck, and vibrate the material covering the seats. This is without any bass boost of any kind, just with some everyday material, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, etc. I can't wait for them to break in, and really give them a workout. :D

Cool. What were your final dimensions for the side pieces? You got me thinking about doing a single 12 ported - my single IDQ10 is not enough for my tastes.

Side pieces are tricky. I started with a 8x18.75" piece, then the dremel came out. You need to sand the side piece to match up with the stamping in the back of the truck, so sanding, fitting, sanding, fitting etc. Then you make your cuts for the angle of 15* for the box. I ended up with 7.25" on the bottom and 3" up top, not counting the part that sinks into the stamping on the back wall. Then you have to cut a small curve in the bottom, and cut a 45* angle in the top, on the back of the piece, so it fit's completely flush to the back wall. I didn't want to just fill that part with silicone, although it would have been easier, just not my style. It's a lot of effort, and work, but if you take your time, you can have a good seal, and with 2 layers of deadener on the back wall, it sounds no different than having a traditional box in the truck. I used .75" MDF all throughout, so that depth comes back with the baffle board. You can get some seriously deep subs in the box, and the crossbrace doesn't interfere, as it's smaller and up higher than with a standard box too.

Do the speakers have room to push out without hitting the seat? Hard to tell from the pics.

Yeah, they do. I spaced the top of the seat out about 3/8", by pulling the top anchor off, and using bolts to add as spacers, and re-installing the old bolts. That, and I moved the subs up a bit in the box, most boxes put the sub opening right at the bottom, i have mine up 2.5" up from the bottom, and there's plenty of room. Just enough to let them fully reach their peak excursion without hitting the seats. I had to stuff this box though, because with the online calculators I used, I got a volume of around 1.6cu.ft, so adding some stuffing helps make it seem bigger. Just went to the craft store and picked up a pack of pillow stuffing. I'm playing with the bass boost on my deck a little, and man, do these things get loud without sounding strained at all. And they are musical, they sound great playing Jay-Z, and Foo Fighters, and everything in between. I threw on some Diana Krall and they played very well with the lower freq., I'm very impressed with the sound of these subs.

If you're interested in them, talk to manethon. He turned me on to them, and I'm glad he did, I was originally considering some Type-Rs, but I saved about $250 using the Shok Industries subs, and they are very nice.

Here's what I mean. Here's the spacers I used for the top anchor point.

And this is the best pic I can get of how much room there is for the sub behind the seat.

I posted a few up on how I made the box. It takes, I would say, a little more effort than a standard box. Volume I got was between 1.6-1.7 cu.ft. on the calculators I ran it through, so take from that what you will.

If I were to recess the sub into the box could I make the box bigger or is it just about as big as it will get

If you space the back seat out like I did, you'd probably have another .5 to .75" to play with. If you look at the pic I posted above, showing how much room there is between the sub and the seatback, you should get a general idea of how much room there is. It would get tight on the top though, so you may have to cut more than a 15* angle in the side pieces to get a thicker baffle to fit.

I know without a back you don't need to worry about cut outs but how did you get around the seat tie downs with the dynamat

You mean the child seat anchors? Just worked around them. They're still there, I just didn't put deadener over them. Two layers everywhere else, except the floor. I purchased some deadener for that, gonna pick it up tonight.

I'd argue that it sounds better than a "traditional" box. ;)

I have no idea what dimensions I went with. I built it into the truck with much less planning and forethought than I typically would give a project like this because of time restrictions when I was finishing my setup. All I know is that I got my air space correct. But the reason I built it like I did was to retain rear-seat usability. It's much more crowded, but well worth.

You may be right. There's very little bass leak out of the truck, and the back doesn't vibrate. I know with the "traditional" box, you'd get some vibrations on the back wall, just from the box vibrating against the wall. These also seem more solid in the truck, they aren't going anywhere. I have to listen to it more for a real determination, but from initial thoughts, the bass is right where I like it.........................LOW and LOUD!
