S I just installed new Image Dynamics component system in my 2010 D-Cab Taocma. The package came with (2) crossovers however I am wondering where to install them with regards to wiring I used the METRA factory adapters and the Tacoma came with an OEM component set up. Does the factory head unit include crossovers, is it possible to use the wiring adapters and still install the crossovers or does it kind of defeat the prupose of simple plug and play.

    Thanks and S/F,

I recommend you install the crossovers that came with your component set. The crossover frequencies are chosen to work with the speakers they provide. I don't know what frequencies Toyota chose, but you run the risk of blowing your ID tweeters if you don't install the ID crossover.

I recommend installing them in the vehicle cabin (vs within the doors) to keep them in a safer environment. You could re-use the factory wiring that runs into the doors, though it may take some testing to determine which are the correct wires. A DMM with ohm measurement makes it a lot easier.

Looking back at your post, I don't I properly answered your question. I don't think the Tacoma HU has separate outputs for woofer and tweeter. From what I recall on the adapter kit, there was only one pair of front speaker outputs and one pair of rear speaker outputs. If that's correct, then the HU does not have a built-in crossover. What Toyota probably did was use some type of passive crossover on the tweeter alone (i.e. bass blocker).

Sorry I don't have all of the details. When I did my system, I replaced everything so it was all gutted. I did not think much about trying to incorporate anything "factory".

Stock speakers do not have a crossover, as mentioned above, but a blocker only. Best bet is to use the new crossovers and, if you're just using HU power, you can use the stock wires if you'd like. Again as mentioned, put the crossovers either inside somewhere or inside the door panel's vapor barrier. If you are using the stock wiring, be careful where you tap into them for the crossover input, the stock speakers are wired in series, as such, cutting in at the wrong spot will kill the signal. BTW, running new wiring for the fronts from the HU is not that difficult, a coat hanger through the door conduit is not too tough to do.

Thanks, guys that answered a lot. I planned on running new wire when I installed the amplifier in the next few months as time, weather and funds permit.
