I'm feeling like a dumba$$ here, but the JL Audio Stealthbox for the 2012+ double cabs just arrived and I thought I'd check the fit. It doesn't seem to want to fit in my 2014 DCLB (no JBL) and then looking at pictures of it installed in a couple of other trucks the rear storage compartments look slightly different than mine. I'm confused, why this is and wondering if anyone knows the answer...

My rear passenger side storage compartment looks like the one shown here where it is a straight line down the side near the door:

The 2012+ JL Stealthbox seems to be made for one with a slight curve on the side near the door as seen here:

That's actually been an issue with the stealth boxes for our trucks for a while now. JL knows about it but the problem is, there's no way to tell which trucks have that curve and which do not. I think it has to do with where the truck was manufactured. I ran into this problem at my shop with the last stealth box we did in a 2013 DC and we ended up having to cut that curve out of that back panel.

Thanks for the response, glad to know I'm not crazy.

It would have been fantastic if JL could have disclosed this issue somewhere on their product information page so I could have been aware of this before ordering it. I dropped the extra $ on the stealthbox mainly because it meant not having to pull out/cut the interior panels. I'm not excited about the prospect of having to pay to send it back...:(

Wow, I had no idea that was an issue...I guess I got lucky with mine! I hope the retailer takes it back since it obviously wont fit.

I'd checked your thread out many times before pulling the trigger. I was about to pm you last night to see if there was a trick to getting it to fit and then noticed that your storage area looked different.

Just had an idea for you...

Many people are taking out the rear plastic compartments to add larger sub boxes. Maybe you could get the PS piece cheap, someone might even give it to you! I'd ask around, post up what you need in the regional area and in the 2nd gen for sale area.

I would just get another set of plastics and cut to fit. I got a set for free from a member on TW.

If he gets another set of plastics, he won't have to cut!

I've posted some wanted ads, but no luck so far. The dealer I bought the stealthbox from is interested in trying to source some of the curved side panels that the box fits in for me but needs a part or VIN number. If any one has a 2012-2014 with the curved panels and is willing to share their VIN number I'd be grateful. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions.

I ended up finding a local seller on craigslist who was selling the variant of the storage bins that the stealthbox was designed for. I couldn't bring myself to start carving up the plastic on my brand new truck.

Ya I have been trying hard to source one out and it's been really hard. If you don't mind me asking, what did it end up costing you and do you have a specific part number? I allied the dealership and they were no help at all...

I don't remember for sure, it was either $50 or $100 and included both back storage pieces and the back of the seat plastics. Funny thing was, I thought I was buying a 2nd set of storage compartments like mine and planned to cut them to fit (keeping a 2nd set intact) but when I picked them up they were other type that fit the stealthbox.

The JL dealer was extremely helpful and was trying to source the correct compartments for me from a Toyota dealer but it seemed like Toyota used the same part number for both types of compartments. JL wasn't particularly helpful, basically saying yeah we were aware of this issue and we're looking into it.

Found another member here that traded with me, glad I found you post... I thought I was crazy. The passanger side bin mates right up with the other one and fits just as the old one did!

LOL, I know exactly how you feel. I thought I was going crazy too...

I'm glad you were able to find one without too much damage. I found it incredibly irritating to spend that much on the Stealthbox and then not have it fit without any forewarning from JL.

Do you happen to have a picture of your original rear storage compartment that did not fit the stealth box?

Sorry for the pic being side ways but here is the stealth box sitting below the bin that it wouldn't work with...
