Just wondering what speakers i should put in my taco. Just got my alpine pdx-v9 amp (100 watts rms by 4). I really am looking for great midbass since that was lacking so bad in my last truck, and love good highs also. I have a Pioneer NEX4000 head unit that has a pretty awesome EQ. Ill be getting a ported sub as well.

Thinking between alpine type R, Image dynamics, JL Audio, or whatever others recommend. I dont wanna spend more than 700 for all 4 speakers. Any advice appreciated guys!

Honestly sound deadening your doors will help with the mid bass response big time. Alpine type r's are very bright and pretty good. ID's are great speakers IMO. Check up on Focal's, great mid bass and very crisp, but also on the brighter side of the spectrum but that's my 'go-to' mid range speaker and has been for a very long time. Not cheap, but well worth it.

Either route you go, I'd factor in sound deadening to the doors with what ever speaker you get and you'll be very happy with the outcome. Check out http://www.raamaudio.com/ for a great deal on sound deadening products.

I def plan to sound deaden my doors, was even coming up with some way of building a box inside the door to create some bass response... but will try sound deadening first. Im leanin toward focals or even hertz just because they seem to be high end and real nice, but this is not from any personal experience.

GO COMPONENT!!! These help to keep your mid's and seperates the tweeters so it won't distort when the mid is going hard and you won't get as much bass out of these usually, but that's what you are getting the sub for. Alpine makes some solid speakers and audio equipment so its worth looking into for sure. But I would say component should be your speaker of choice for at least two speakers.

Building little boxes in the doors can work with some speakers. You'll want to check if they are free air speakers or if they do work with boxes. I did 3 layers of sound deadening material (inside door skin, inside door frame, outside door frame where speaker mounts). I ended up going back and covering all the holes with sheet metal, then sealed them, after that I did the sound deadening and insolite. My front doors hit harder than the JBL sub ever did by leaps and bounds. I run these focals http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...scplp7476133&gclid=CNqdnanktsACFchhfgodVhEA6A

Hertz are great speakers as well. That's what I'll be putting in my Civic's SPL build.

I second the focals, that is, if you have the dough.

The hybrid audio is nice stuff. I have a friend that likes focal and it's very nice as well.

On a budget the JBL GTO series is good bang for the buck. I'm installing some older Fosgate FanaticQ components I've had, and some Alpine Type X stuff int he rear, but if I were going to separately drive each speaker in the front doors (active setup) - I'd have to go with the Silver Flute Midranges - they're amazing sounding, 85% of a Dynaudio or Focal Utopia, for $30 a pop. Reviews rave for these in car and home audio circles. http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-6-7-woofers-silver-flute/

    +3 (or 4, lost count) :D

Just threw a set of their new flax components (PS 165 FX) in my truck running off a JL XD500/3 and they sound absolutely incredible. I'm stunned by the amount of bass these puppies put out too. Not subwoofer level, but hands down the most bass I've EVER heard out of a set of components.

How do you like that XD amp? I've got a 1000/5 coming, and I'm wondering if I need to worry about heat much. (I've always been a class A/B amp owner - this'll be my first class D) Where did you mount yours?

Another vote for focal flax fx speakers, I own a set of focal wrc utopia be's that are in my tacoma but the fx is an awesome speaker for the money and they hit it out of the park with it. If your running rears, go for a set of focal ac access coaxs.

JL amps are incredible and I wouldn't ever worry about one running hot. Even their low end line sounds better and puts out cleaner power than most of the other big name car audio company's stuff.

Mine is under the driver seat and runs perfectly cool there.

You've got a set of $2,000 components in your TACOMA? Seriously?

Why not? It's my dd and I enjoy my audio experience. I have a lot of hushmat to quiet it down and no exhaust or anything so it's relatively quiet. If you think that's crazy you would flip out knowing the rest of the system. This is tame compared to my last mustang gt, that one had 3 way utopia be no7 in it with lots of Italian power and 2 jl 10w7 subs and a &1200 CD player (no nav or screen, it is just a cd USB and bt radio). It's pretty freaking fun. And no, I'm not made of money and my truck is pretty much stock otherwise.
