Max airspace behind rear seat 2015 double cab

I'm waiting on a 2015 to arrive and I would really like to be able to shoe horn (3) JL 10W0s behind the rear seat. I want to put them in a shared chamber and I want to get 2.06' of total air space to account for the displacement of the woofers themselves and still give me .65' per sub.

Is this possible to do while retaining the rear seats?

Trust me, ive researched this a TON and the only answer i can get is that no, you cannot make 2.0 cu. ft. of airspace back there. My goal was 2 ported 10's which required at least 2.0 cu ft. but i am going with 1 12 instead so i can have the right amount of airspace. I think you max out around 1.7 cu.ft. and if someone tells you differently, dont just take their word for it, ask for dimensions or some kind of proof.

Ive never understood why someone would want 3 subs anyway, 2 subs would sound alot better if they were in the same size box as 3. the airspace is crucial.

If you are talking about identical subs though, 3 subs will always be louder than 2 if you have them in the proper airspace with proportional power. Putting 2 subs in a box built for three is going to make the subs lose SPL, SQ and they won't be able to take as much power to them. (Edit: You will probably get a little more ultra-low end bass, but not worth it IMO)

I modeled a few different subs and scenarios on WinISD and the 3 W0s came out on top. If I absolutely can't get them to fit I'll probably go with 3 W1s instead in a slightly smaller box.

 

I can build one that will fit 3 w0's behind the seats with 2.06 cu ft of air space. PM me if you want more details or a design.

 

OP, this is where you ask for proof. not to say he's wrong, but i've had multiple others say they got 2.0 in a box and once i measured up their plan it was indeed not 2.0. Curious here though, if this is possible maybe i can get my 2 10's!

 

I've got a box for two 12"s, behind my seats, and I figure I have around 1.9-2cu.ft. of space. What I did was to cut the top, bottom and sides, actually screw them with L-brackets to the truck body for sealing, and then silicone heavily around the inside of the box. It takes time to form the sides to fit the bracing bar across the middle of the back wall, and around the upper seat bracket mounted to the floor. There's some build pics here, that show my process. There's no "back of the box", I'm using the back wall of the truck as the back wall of the box. It can be done, but you have to grab your balls, and screw into the truck with some metal tapping screws.

 

There is definitely enough room back there to get 2 cu ft in an enclosure.

Also, how did you come up with 2.06? You'll want 1.95 for three of those w0 subs. JL accounts for their driver displacement in their enclosure volume specifications.

 

Some one handed drill action, sounds like a blast!

I'd be curious to see some dimensions and or calculations because with the box builder calculators i use, ive never been able to get 2.0 cu.ft back there. Not even using .5" mdf and excluding speaker displacement. That notch you need to make on the back wall takes out a lot of space, and the wedge shape takes a lot out too.

Anyways, there is room to be had, and you can make it work, that's the point I was trying to get across. It's all good, shaneckc really helped me out on my build, that's for sure.

Hello Joe.

The volume listed in the chart is the net volume. So looking at that alone, you'll need to add in the woofer displacement and any brace displacement in order to get the gross volume.

 

Ah, ok. I even checked it against their recommended cubic enclosure dimensions and it was so close to their recommended space that I assumed they were accounting for driver displacement. I didn't realize that the driver displacement was only 0.03 cu ft. My bad.
