Sat Phones? Who has one? What are you using?

Used many mobile and sat phones over the years for various projects and assignments. Coming time where I would like to get one for myself. Some of the stuff out there is great and allows you to use your own device. Like the Thuraya SatSleeve for Android. BUTT no coverage in the USA. Want something that is newer, since it will be a device I keep around for a long time. First responder, Emergency and critical communication are my goals.

I'm a tech though. SO It might be looking at the weather conditions in an area too. So a smart device, or something that lets me use my device through it for data would be nice.

Looking at the isatphone 2 also, but have not had hands on. Lots of the local places here are appointment only and will not let you get hands on without paying them first. Really bothersome to me and do not like that kind of service.
