    Hello guys,
I need help on deciding which 10 inch subwoofer to get. Between Alpine SWR-T10 Type R Thin (4 ohms) and JL Audio 10tw3 Shallow mount sub (dual 4 ohm voice coil), which do you prefer and why. If I’ll get the Alpine it will be powered by Alpine PDX M-6 while the JL Audio will be powered by JL Audio XD600/1v2. I can also mix and match if necessary. Thoughts and insights will be much appreciated. Thanks. Godspeed.

    Manethon,
I already have a box for a single 10 inch (supecrewsound). Yes I can do woodwork but my free time is limited. I am not willing to give up the passenger side rear storage hence the single 10 inch box for the driver side. Godspeed.

I would go with JL just because of their quality. I don't have experience with either sub, but JL has been setting the standard for the audio world for a while now.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have personally listened to the JL and was impressed by the amount of output it can provide. I have not heard the Alpine, but have read very good things about it.

I have an IDQ10 I am trying to sell if you're interested :)

Thanks guys. Dakotasyota, I knew about JL’s quality, my fronts are JL C3 650s and same as Alpine (head unit and front amps). I like the JL but the Alpine sub has the metal ring that protects the sub surround on hitting the rear seat plastic cover while the JL’s rubber surround is exposed. Keep comments coming. Much appreciated. Godspeed.

Blacked out emblem (plastidip), JVC double din head unit, Rockford Fosgate component speakers, Kenwood KAC amp, Alpine type R 10" sub. retrofitted headlights.
I currently have a 10 inch type r in my truck and it rattles my cab. Ive tried to turn it up to find distortion and haven't been able to without hurting my ears. I have no experience with the JL though. In my 2 months with my type r i have no complaints

Alpine Type R over JL. JL is just a name these days. I have the Type R 12 shallow, hits really clean and pretty hard for a shallow sub.

I HIGHLY suggest a ported box for the Alpine Type R subs. They really don't do well in sealed boxes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. I am going for Alpine Shallow 10 and PDX M6 with Audiocontrol Epicenter within the loop. Godspeed.

Don't be alarmed when you first fire up that sub. It won't sound all that great until it breaks in. It's got one stiff surround in it.

Thanks for the heads-up Aw9d. I knew about the legend of "break-in" in audio. I had my share of drivers and amps during my "audiophile" days. Still have Linkwitz-Orions and horns. Godspeed,
