I have had always liked kicker since the days of the gold lettering kicker logo but since 94 ran Orion Ntense and Pioneer subs. I have an Orion 225 HCCA amp for the subs but have never really had a stellar Hi's amp but that's about to change. I have now a Pioneer deck and a Cadence preamp EQ. I definitely need to get new subs as I blew one of the Pioneers. I went to Best buy to listen to some since it is the closest place that has displays since I live in the country. I would buy online though at much cheaper prices for the same products.

I went in and listened to the Kicker 40DCWR122 12's in a box that is ported on one side with a good size port. It in the store is powered by a kicker CX 600.1 AMP, which is 300 watts @ 4 ohms and 600 @ 2 ohms. The speakers are dual 2 ohm speakers. I absolutely love the way the 12s sound in that box though I must admit I have always been a fan of and had sealed boxes. I've always heard ported ones play louder or something, or have a more hollow sound or something but I'm not totally sure and would have loved to have that same box sealed with the same speakers to see if I could notice any difference. Can you guys help me out with that on what the difference would be?

I have a 95 mustang and have always ran 10's mainly because I have the mach 460 box still in the rear deck , though unhooked. I might take that box out and go with 12s. Any advantages to going with 12s? Also might want to just use my Orion amp on my component set but that amp at 4 ohms would only put out 25x2 which isn't much. I would think least 40x2 would be better at the least though I woulf prefer around at least 60-75 x2. If I did do that I could then go with the kicker CX 600.1 for the subs which I like the way it sound in the store.

I'm going to go with a set of Polk Audio 6 1/2 component set after letting a shop make and install the adapter plates to go with 6 1/2s as 5x7's are what came in there. Any tidbits of advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
Also must mention that the Polk 12 inch dvc 4 ohms in a ported single box ran on a Polk amp sounded like it had more deeper or a lower bass tone that the same kicker speaker but one solo kicker in a ported box also on that same Polk amp. Me and my homeboy was in there testing out stuff and listening, testing and listening. The Polk sounded good but I was convinced on that Kicker comp R box with the 2 12s for sure

    Well, ill keep this short,
You have to much to read but i kinda got the just of a few things

Tacoma's are limited for space Thus,
Most you can get out of a box net is around 2.4cubic feet. Generally most 12s like 2-2.5 CF ported

Get a sub with the highest rating or power handling as you only have space for 1 12 ported.
Tune the box via 4 or 6 inch flared port on the driver side side loading
Change port length till you find the frequency that you like the sound at.
