The new double DIN faceplate does not come with the head unit. I purchased mine at Car Toys but I would suggest going elsewhere. I don't know what brand it is but the fit and color is less than perfect. There are some forums on here that talk about the best matching faceplate. I would listen to them. Secondly, I have no idea where to get something like this installed. I would go to a well known stereo installer because it is somewhat complicated. Sorry, I don't have much help to give you.

    Good Luck

I am about to get a 7100. What wiring harness do I need? And also, is there going to be an external GPS antenna with that unit or is it all internal?

you will have an external antenna but it can be mounted inside. you can also experiment with mounting it below the dash and see if it works. I understand it will pick up signal but didn't try it.

There is a wiring harness that comes w/ the radio. You can simplify things by buying a toyota tacoma harness and you will just have to splice the wires between the connectors. its not hard at all.

You can definitely install the GPS antenna inside the dash. Mine works great.

Oh good. I don't want anything external to show! Does anyone use or know anything about "computer chips" for tacomas? (The ones that control the fuel systems and the power arch things...I think)

I bought the DNX7100 about a month ago... it is amazing. I purchased on eBay a Schoosh dash kit that for the most part has been fine. The Wiring harness, however, was incorect. I am told that this was because I had the JBL system in my 08 Double-Cab Sport. I had some options: The system could be hard wired (matching up colors) or buying the harness that is disigned for it from best buy (the better route because of the way that the JBL system is, it could be harmful to your speakers to just wire it or find a matching 20 pin harness) Wanting to do it correctly, I bought the harness from best buy (about $100). I would reccomend you do the same. If you have any questions as to why you need it, just talk to the dood IN THE INSTALLATION BAY at Best Buy (sometimes the guy on the floor doesn't know about the JBL System and how your truck communicates with it.)

Nice set up. Did you change the speakers and add amps too?

I didn't change the speakers yet but the built in eq and the 50w pre amp in the unit made it sound completely different. i cannot turn up this unit more than 25 out of 40 because it is too loud. I found that a big difference is the volume the Ipod is set at and the eq setup on the Ipod. the two eq settings combine to make a very crisp sound with a surprising amount of bass from the stock speakers. I am ordering 1 or 2 10" JL w3 to put in the back to really top off the system.

From what I have read on this unit, when you use the ipod cable it takes an audio port, video port, and the usb port. I would like to permanently install (hide in the glove box or center console) an ipod hookup, but would like access to a separate usb installed into one of my blank switch cutouts (to the left of the steering wheel) to plug in memory sticks to upload new background pictures or play other people's stuff. Should I plug a splitter into the main usb or is there another way?

From what I have read on this unit, you have to use the usb to connect the ipod. I would like to do a permanent install for the ipod connection, but would also like another usb (possibly installed in one of the blank switch spots to the left of the steering wheel). Should the original usb be plugged into a splitter or is there another way to do it?

how did you wire the amp behind your seats . I am looking into running under box under back seat and along the hump in the middle of cab to dash to battery . I want to run my speaker wires through the door sills . I am also going to get the same box but with either infinity kappa 10 subs or alpine 10 subs and 2 amps .

    thanks

I ran the power wire from the battery through the firewall, then under the plastic pieces that separate the floormats from the metal (basically the 4" wide by 28" long plastic pieces that you step on everytime you get into the vehicle) if that makes sense. You do have to remove the plastic pieces where the seatbelts are connected. The rear ones are kind of a pain in the arse. Then I used a power wire splitter behind the rear seat to break off and power the sub amp while I ran the other power wire under the rear seat and cut a hole in the carpet underneath the passenger seat. That is wire my alpine PDX is mounted to run my focals. Hope that helps a little. Let me know if you want more specifics.

    -Good Luck
