power drain?

Today I installed an Alpine PDX 5 and a JL sub in my truck. Hooked it to a AVIC 900 and only running the sub on the amp. Install went real easy and there didn't seem to be any issues untill I drove to the store. The truck seems to be idling lower than usual, almost wanting to stall it seems. Driving at speed normally it was fine. So, I pulled the fuse on the amp power wire and it all runs good now.

I imagine since I have an 05 it may be my battery and/or alternator just showing their age.
I sure hope its not the alternator but it seems to be pointing that way.
I'm going to pull it out this weekend and have it tested.
Anyone else have this problem?

 

If you've never swapped your battery and are still running the original one that was manufactured in 2005.. then yes, that could very well be the issue.
You could also have a weak ground on the amplifier. Make sure that the metal you've attached it to is bare and clean (of paint, oil and other residue).

 

yeah it could be the battery. the ground should be nice n tight and is on clean bare metal. I'll double check and go look for batteries too.

 

well, I got a Optima yellow top and all is well again. After testing the old stock battery, it showed a big drain under load, but the check light was green. So, the new amp potentailly saved me by showing my old battery was failing. Is there anything Rock and Roll cant fix?
