2008 Non-JBL with a 6 disc.
maybe you had a cd in the stereo. once the adapter was installed, did you hit the "cd" button twice on the radio??? wait you have the 6cd changer. don't you have to go to disc #6 on the 6-cd changer unit in order to turn on the aux function, or something like that??? I had to hit the "cd" button twice for my stereo to go into the "aux' mode and the adapter to work. this way i can switch between a cd in my stereo or my mp3 player.

You have to press the "Disc" button twice. The first press takes you to the CD player, the second press activates the Metra input. It does not matter what CD disc is selected.

How would I hook it up wrong, I mean the directions have three steps? It plugs into the back of the radio and then you plug your Ipod or Aux into that. Do you have to disconnect something?

Yes, it would be tough to hook it up wrong. It is an extremely easy install. Are you sure you have it plugged into the radio completely? Are you sure you have the ipod and aux cable plugged into the Metra unit correctly? That is about all there is to it....

Yep, plus I called the company and they told me it wasn't going to work. So i think I covered all my possibilities.

I use the FM antenna and it works great, see my post above.

I am seriously confused

I have an 07 tacoma with the regular single disc cd player. I DO NOT HAVE THE JBL 6 DISC CHANGER. Moast people seem to like the Metra. How would I select the ipod without having any cd changer controls on my factory head unit? Does anyone have any advice for connecting an ipod? I really appreciate your help.

You still have a DISC button on your radio. In stock trim it would switch between the am/fm radio and your single cd player. The radio has a cd changer port in the back of it, which would enable any Toyota radio from 1998 to preasent to controll an external cd changer, kind of like the ones back in the day that were mounted in the trunk, before they figured out how to fit a 6 disc changer in the dash.

In any case, the adapters, metra, usa spec, whatever, make use of this port and convert the ipod signal to emulate a CD changer. In any case, all the Toyota CD players have a button labled DISC, and that is how you switch to the Ipod and then back to the regular CD player.

Talking Yes! ipod in new truck

I too followed the advice from all above. I have a 2008 Dbl Cab PreRunner, and the Metra works great. I just installed it this morning and am so happy with it. I love the fact that all other funtions still work. I find it amazing that the "expert" stereo guys don't know anything about this, and I'm glad I didn't pay one of those crackheads to do it. Thanks for all the great info.

It has an ipod connection and a 3.5mm connection for an mp3 player, or any other device for that matter. I ran both the ipod and 3.5mm cable to the glove box. The sound quality is great. Thanks to the sticky tutorial by 007tacoma it was an extremely simple mod. It took less than 30 minutes. The next time my sons friend comes over i will hijack his ipod so i can test it out.
how do you hook it up?

Read from the beginning of the thread and check out the sticky by 007Tacoma. It's easy, don't pay some stereo guy to do it.

Ok I got an 08 Double Cab. I got the 6 disc changer and I dont have an Aux or Sat Radio option on it. Everyone tells me its impossible unless I go aftermarket radio. I will spend the money on aftermarket if i have to but will this work for me?

Anyone using the Metra or Axxess having volume issues? I am using the 1/8" plug rather than the Ipod cable. I have the MP3 player turned all the way up and still have to max the factory volume to get as loud as the regular radio stations at 35 volume. Is it a faulty adaptor? I bought it a circuit city so i have 30 days to return it.

Look into the PA15-TOY
Thats what I got, and it hooked up just fine! Sounds great!
And I can use the steering wheel controls.

Yes, the Metra will work for you. It plugs into the back of the radio. Read the beginning of the thread...

I do not have to max out the volume on the radio and the Metra. I have my mp3 (Sansa) probably at 90% volume. I then run the radio around 35-37. It is plenty loud with those settings.

Congrats TacoRex! It is one of the easiest mods once you realize how easy the radio comes out...

hello,

I recently installed the metra AIPTY02ID and it was working fine for a few weeks and then stopped. It still charges the ipod, but the power light on the outside of the unit itself does not come on.

I called metra and they told me that since I have an 05 tacoma with the jbl 6-cd changer installed, it never should have worked in the first place. However, I number of other users seemed to have no issues.

I am actually sort of worried I may have damaged the stereo. Any ideas? Did I just get a lemon? Thanks.

I haven't had any problems with mine. I chose to use the headphone jack instead of the iPod connector, because I prefer the iPod controls. You might want to try this before throwing in the towel. I doubt you damaged the stereo at all.
