06 Double Cab Speakers

Before I pull off the door panels to find this out, does anyone know what size the factory speakers are in the 06 double cab? (I'm talking about the tweeters & mids in the front as well as the mids in the back).

I'm getting ready to upgrade my system and need to know what to go with. I'll post pictures as a I go.

All 05+ Tacomas, except for reg cabs, have 6x9s in the front doors. 6.5" in the rear. I recommend that you buy or make adapter plates for the front and use 6.5" mids all around. They will have better sound quality than 6x9s.

My CarDomain has some pics of how I fit 8" mids in the front doors. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/832238

That's good news. I was planning on putting some component 6.5's up front and just some 2way 6.5's in the back. Any idea if the factory tweeter can be removed/replaced? And what size it is?

You can make just about any tweeter fit, as long as it's not deeper than 1.5" Just use plumbers steel tape or rig up a simple bracket. Nothing is going to bolt right in.

Check out TacoTunes.com if you want to buy mounting adapter plates for your mids. It's easy to make them out of MDF though.

Yeah, I've seen the TacoTunes.com website (after I posted here). They seem to be a bit pricey on their mounting plates. I'm pretty handy with a jigsaw so I believe I'll attempt to make my own.

By the way, I checked out your pictures; your truck is pretty sweet! I just wish I had the $$ for that HU you've got!

Just used the tacotunes speaker plates & harnesses. It is pricey but when time is at a premium, it's worth every penney! From the time I opened my cheapie Sony Xplod 6X9 & 6.5 chrismas present, I had them installed in the doors in just over an hour. With my limited mdf cutting ability, I would have been at it for hours with mdf!

What sound improvement are you guys getting with better speakers but the stock head unit in the Double Cab? Because I'm leasing, I don't want to switch out the head unit, but think I could get away with upgrading the speakers.

I have a 07' Double Cab. Doesn't sound BAD, but just gets muddled when you turn it up.

getting about 40% better sound improvement but have purchased a new double din head unit and install kit to put in this week. I also have a leased taco and will take it out and put back to stock when truck goes back.

Anybody try the Alpine IVA-W200 head unit? How does that work with bluetooth and steering wheel controls? Do you need adaptors? What about overriding the motion control to watch dvd while driving.

PB, do u have templates for the mids and the tweeters? If so, please Pm to me. My neighbor can make them since he's handy with the router.

I don't have them anymore. You can use the stock speakers as templates though. Then cut whatever size speaker hole you want.
