Viper 5901 Security System Install Prices?

Looking to get one of these for my truck , what should I expect to pay for installation? I live in Orange County, CA if that means anything. Anybody know of some good shops to get it done?

Buy it from a authorized shop. Otherwise DEI will not warranty it.

$650 seems to be the going rate (including install). another $80-$100 for the starter bypass.

if you buy the unit off ebay just have a reputal shop install it. i have been installing since 1995 and dei says as long as its a good shop they dont have to be an actual dei dealer.

they should charge around 150 for labor and like stated before, around 100 for the bypass.

According to the features, the starter kill is built in. NORMALLY , with DEI products, what that means is the relay for the starter kill is BUILT in to the main unit. Since it has remote start, once the starter wire is interupted in order to start the vehicle with the remote, the bypass is done for you. You should NOT have to pay extra for starter kill. You will need the external unit for the KEYSENSE bypass, and that will cost extra. If you get the basic install, which will cover parking lights, keyless entry (lock and unlock) remote start, door triggers...then you will probably pay 200-250 in labor. Thats if you buy it, and they install it. If you buy it elsewhere, and then bring it to be installed, expect to pay twice as much in most cases.

I would not give people a break unless they bought the product for me. Its easier to warranty the product and the labor that way. Sounds shady, but it's normal business. I would always charge more for outside labor ( which means anyone that brought me something to be installed, but bought it elsewhere) Think about it like this. Why should I offer the same service and warranty to the guy that bought off online, as the guy that just spent a ton of money at my store for equipment and labor. How is it fair to the guy that spent alot if the guy that went online or whatever pays the same in labor for the same quality of service? Anyway, just my 2 cents!!

damn..lol maybe i should raise my prices.. looks like im too cheap on my labor..lol

i deff. dont half ass anyting either, i solder EVERY wire, no exeptions. I do all the 12 volt installs and tint for one of our toyota dealerships here in kc and have been for 2 years and they only had one come back and it was a unit that failed. i had the customer fixed up and on their way in under an hour. so needless to say they are happy with my work and they keep me busy. they sell approx 150 cars a month and i get to install stuff in at least 80%.

they gave me a great deal on my 09 so when im ready to buy another one i hope they take care of me like i do them.

You have to cut dealerships breaks or they will go elsewhere. Dont blame you there. They are REGULAR business so you have to work with them.

The price of the unit has install labor built in. If you buy it off e-bay, to get it cheaper, you are still paying for the unit, minus the install. By the time you go to a shop to have it installed, you will still have to pay labor, which brings the price back up to the price you would have paid just to get it at the dealer.

Actually, around here, shops charge more labor to install things not purchased with them. So its more expensive to buy one of these units off e-bay and have the shop install it, versus buying from the shop to begin with.

There is nothing wrong with being a nice guy bro. Hell, I think I am one of the most patient and nicest guys that I know. lol. But when you are paying (Back when I owned a shop) 2k a month in rent, 300-400 a month for utilities, 180 a month for shop insurance, 1600 a month for ONE employee, 1200-1500 a month for sales and use taxes, 200 a month for phone, net, and fax..........etc, etc, etc..............there is a time to be nice, and a time to pay the overhead.

Unfortunately most consumers do not realize what it takes to actually run a small, RETAIL STOREFRONT business.

Im not even counting the times that I went out of way for customers and took care of warranty issues PAST the warranty period for product out of MY pocket.....sometimes you do your best for customers, sometimes the economy fails you anyway.

EDIT: bro, its not rape. What is your time and experience worth? What are YOU worth? You could give someone a cheaper labor price than your competitor..........do you really think that next time that customer will be loyal? They will price shop anyway. 12 volt consumers are the MOST fickle, and unloyal of ANY industry. At least in the automotive field.

well i do have a very loyal customer base. hell i usually let the customers sit in the cars and watch what i am doing. Its amazing how much you secure their confidence when you explain to them everything you are doing in the car. I have repeat customers from up to 10 years ago so i must be doing something right. Plus i have no overhead.. its just me now, no one else to pay..lol
