the standard stereo and reg cab question
trying to save myself the future trouble of pulling it out just to look in the future!!
i have a stock 07 toyota 4X2 ( 5 lug) with a regular cab. there are no rear speakers at all. the control doesn't do anything and if i select back it just gets quieter so my question are the jacks there but they don't put in rear speakers and can i get a set of speakers and then have my front /back adjustment and not just left right? i am a old fart with marginal hearing so don't need anything but stock speakers anyone have any recommendations for speakers if i just have to hook them up ? thanks |

In the access cab and double cab models the rear speakers are in the doors. Since you have no rear doors I am not sure where to suggest that you would look for them to even see if the wiring was there. Perhaps along the back wall of the cab? Take a look for something that looks like a speaker grill? Perhaps someone with a regular cab truck will chime in and offer up some better information.

You are correct. There is no speakers back there. Even if there were, it will not sound any better than what you already have because the seat would be covering them up. If you really want better sound, I would install a set of component speakers in the front doors. If you go to Crutchfield, they have a sale on some Blaupunkt components for $50. If you don't want to spend too much money, than definately don't try to install speakers in the rear. Concentrate on improving the front.

jjewell thanks on looking, and a pic or a sketch of location of the jacks would be appreciated !
ANYTHING out of the back area would be a improvement as sound is very directional now ! there is room in the back to put in two speaker enclosures ;-D, not a big bass unit but two speakers on left and right down low ! and it would be a "bit of fun" to string the wires, but there is already directions on removing the side kick panel and door jam and should be room to use that ! anyone know what the power outage is of the stock radio and resistance ( ohms) of the factory speakers? thanks the music i listen to dosen't have heavy bass anyway ! or if anyone has the original door speakers and wants to sell them cheap after doing a upgrade? i'm not going to do this tomorrow, but will in the future the music i listen to dosen't have heavy bass anyway and 1/2 of the radio output isn't getting used now and the sound is so directional thanks |

Factory speakers have a 4 ohm resistance. (4.1 or 4.2 to be exact if I remember correctly) I can't remember the power output off the top of my head though. Sorry.

If you are really wanting stock speakers, I have a pair of stock speakers that I took out of my 06 Infiniti G35. They are practically brand new. If you are going to run new wires anyway, it wo'nt matter if they are toyota or Infiniti speakers. Let me know if you are interested.

I just bought a 2007 Tacoma Regular Cab and the only speakers are the two factory speakers on each door. The factory speakers definitely leave something to be desired if you're prone to listen to music loudly, as I sometimes do. For the most part, though, I've found that lowering the Bass level on the control to -1 or -2 on the knob takes the rattle/distortion out of the picture most of the time while still having a decent bass kick for the normal rock music that I listen to. I usually don't turn the volume past the 45 mark on my speakers, so I've been able to get by alright over the past two weeks and most everything sounds pretty good.
Since my last three vehicles were all Toyota Corollas, I've been accustomed to hearing music from back speakers, but I strangely don't miss them that much on my Tacoma. I'm sure that I could find a way to mount some back speakers up on the back corners of my truck from the ceiling right above the back window if I really wanted to get creative and get advice/work from some expert audio people. For now, I have no desire to "mess with the formula", though, and I'm more inclined to get by on minimal or no modifications for the present. Some better JBL speakers or other speakers on the doors to replace the factory speakers is a "distant future" project and I've gotten some great advice here on this forum from y'all so far. Just sticking with the ole' factory system for the immediate future, though. |

I just installed rear speakers in my standard cab. I posted my install if you are interested.
The sound quality/clarity/volume is definately noticeable. Since there is so much space behind the seats the sound is easily heard. I'm 5'10" and when driving my seat is a good 6" from the back window allowing plenty of sound to be heard. And yet I call put the seat all the way back and not damage the seat nor the speakers. |
