Finally came in after 2 weeks + Installed it today!! Just made up my custom Toyota playlists & synced to the ipod. I'll be heading to work soon to really try it out.

The ipod chord could be longer . But then again, I put the 'box' underneath the passenger side airbag behind the dash. If I re-route this (and there's plenty of cable to the box), I'd definately have more cable at the ipod end. But for now, It's good until I have time to reroute things. I gotta get used to the new features now. :D

Hey guys, I have ben using the PA15-TOY for about a year now with my 80gig (I think its a 5th gen), it works great, I use the ipod to control it, I can select any playlist I want and it plays great. I just got a 160gig ipod classic and plugged it in, it plays but I dont have a clue what its playing, its seems like a random all songs, and I cannot control it from my ipod anymore, all I can do is change songs from the headunit or steering wheel control. Anyone know why the change? I put my old ipod back in, I love the fact I can control my ipod like its a normal ipod.

I just got my PA15-TOY (TEXT version) and it has a couple different modes (playlist mode or direct mode).
Since your unit is 1 year old, I can't comment on whether yours has these different modes or not.

Hard to explain....but.... if yours has this capability.... click on the DISC UP or DISC DOWN buttons (#3 button on your head unit) and you'll scroll through the modes (I think - I'm still learning). One of the modes will be AUX. Another mode is direct mode (allows full functionality of your ipod) and the others are playlists that are stored in your ipod (mine has up to 6 playlists available).

    Hope that helps...

    Here's the Owners manual....
    http://www.factoryautoaccessories.com/toyota/PA15TOY.pdf

Also, make not of the very last page of the owners manual. Mentions firmware & ipod generations

Thanks, guess my older ipod is a 4th gen, it works in direct play just fine. The new ipod classic just goes straight to playlist play. So I guess I need to buy a new cable . Thanks for the help!

I think you have to use the disk up/down buttons to select play mode.

Then I can control it on my iphone? I thought that just changes the song? I will try again.

How old is your USA Spec unit?

Did you try to change the mode?
Clicking on the Disc up/down buttons (#3/4 on your radio)?

Hmm... Try calling USA spec and ask them about it. Depending on the 'version' of the unit and the compatibility. Maybe its something as easy as the dipswitch settings...... or another cable.

    Good Luck!

THat's the main reason why I got rid of my 5 year old ipod2car unit - because of compatibility issues with the firmware. It worked fine to play the music but using the click wheel was impossible - I always had to unplug it.

Sent a email to them explaining everything, couldn't find a number for them. Guess I will wait and see what they say, hope its a simple fix, lol.
