this kit can use a single din navigation unit like the Kenwood Excelon KVT-819DVD...I was going to go with this...but opted not to since i'm an audiophile kind of guy...:D

maybe twin...but the single I am going to go with and the forged internals are going to put me well above 500 hprw as a daily driver...that's where I want to run about 15psi of boost...but I will lose a lot of it once i'm lifted...that's why I am going to finish all my performance prior to doing the lift kits and adding bigger wheels and tires...all that extra power i get will help put less strain on the engine when lugging all that extra weight down the road...just keep your eye out...cause this project will be starting VERY SOON...

I've owned both Pioneer and Alpine

If you are stopping at the deck and never upgrading, then simply look at controls. To me, the Alpine iDA-X series are hard to beat. They act as if you are in front of the iPod itself.

If you are looking for expandability, then I would say Pioneer. Between the two I have, the Pioneer is more powerful and more capable than my Alpine in terms of crossover controls, line out power, and other settings. The Alpine requires a $100 external unit to catch up.

If I was getting back in the market right now, I would take a strong look at Kenwood. I always thought them a little complex before, but some of their new stuff was very impressive.

This first one looks like everything you want, and has the ability for expansion should you need it.

If it was me buying, I'd be all over this one.
It's got me covered with 3x preamp outputs at 4 volts, low and high crossovers, and even has time alignment - something that wasn't offered on my deck that almost cost double last year.
Built in HD radio and iTunes tagging? NICE.

T0LLPHR33 ... I so hate you right now. Trolling that faceplate past my eyeballs is soooo cruel. Custom one-off you say? Too bad. Nicest real mod I've seen here.

Get a fab shop to start making them and I'm sure they'd start selling.

here's mine. seriously, the wiring harness is color coded to your stock cables so just match them and tape them together. Doesn't get easier than that. :) Good Luck!

dont think i would use tape, solder or crimp. glad to see you picked alpine as pioneer's ipod controls are lacking. also try the alpine biolite models. the angle of the tacoma dash puts the stereo in the sun alot and the biolite is the only display not washed out by the sun.

Alpine if your at all concerned about ipod control. It is absolutely the best. I just snagged an Alpine CDA-105 for $140 off Ebay. Take your time and the deals will pop up :)

i have an alpine. according to crutchfield if you buy the one listed, they will toss in a free ipod cable, as well as the wiring harness and dash kit.

i dunno about others, but i have used both a stereo jack and stereo controls of my ipod. i prefer the stereo controls of the ipod.

Alpine - this one was in my 97 Tacoma for 3 years and has been in my 08 for almost 2 years. Never any problems. I-pod sits in the glovebox. Metra dash kit. Not a real good picture but you get the idea.

I to am researching what to get..I have been sold on the Alpine but after looking over and comparing the features (Crutchfield) the Pioneers I like, I like the Satellite radio options but some of the lower end (under $250.00) Pioneers also have blue-tooth built in, I like that also...
