kenwood dnx5120

Just wanted to see how hard the install is on this product. I was able to find one for about 300 and jumped on it and wanted to know how difficult it is or if i should just have someone install it for me

 

its easy.

 

I had the same thoughts with my 5120. I ended up installing it myself and got a lot of satisfaction from doing so and having saved on the ridiculous install costs I was quoted.

Read through the install doc and post any questions you have.

Hints..

- Route the wire that's supposed to go to the parking brake to the ground.
- Drill a small hole in the plastic that divides the inner dash from the vent area for the windshield defrosting vents and run the nav antenna wire through it. Mine's mounted dead center on the dash up near the windshield. I used high temp silicone to seal it in after I ran the wire so that no hot air would leak into the dash.
- Reverse wire for a backup cam is easy to find in the wiring harness behind the drivers kick panel.
- If you use a Scosche kit, you'll need to dremel/cut a notch out of the plastic mount so that the unit's exhaust fan will be unobstructed.

Wing, if you get the specific Toyota harness the colors match up and it is plug and play. The only oddballs are the reverse sensing and parking ground.
