How to disable stock tweeters?

I know I have seen this here before, but I can not manage to find it for the life of me. Does anyone have a write-up or any advice on how to disable the stock tweeters while running power from the head unit to the front door speaker by utilizing the factory wiring? I am simply looking to disable the front tweeters after installing some new door speakers, although, when I unplug the tweeters, power to the door speakers is cut. Thanks in advance!

 

It's odd that power would be cut to the door speakers when you unplug the tweeters. Almost like they're wired in series.

 

Thats what I was thinking. They actually are wired in series from what I could tell with my multimeter. They also sound like crap, it was pretty interesting how the magnet on the tweeters is quite a bit larger than the magnet on the door speaker...

 

Got it squared away. I'll post some pictures up later and a how to for anyone that is in this same predicament. FWIW it was actually very easy to disable the tweeters. It involved cutting four wires that are harnessed together and soldering them together in pairs on each side.

 

Cool man. Did you get component speakers for the doors or something?

 

OK, so what I ended up doing was I took the harness on each door panel that connects to the stock tweeters, cut them at the connector, and then soldered together the like color wires. This eliminates the stock tweeter while still allowing power to be sent through the factory harness to the door speakers. Here is a pictures of the finished product. I also made some baffles so I could put 6.5s up front. The baffles went the prettiest things, but they get the job done as well as any.

No componets, just some better speakers than the stock ones.
