Got the Alpine iDA-X305 yesterday for my bday. it looks awesome and i cant wait to put it in. me and my dad want to put it in ourselves. But while ago we were just looking at all the wiring and were kind of overwhelmed. he thought a wiring harness ment we would just have to plug everything in and it work. you still have to crimp the wires dont you? Any help with the install would be greatly appreciated. The plan is to take out the factory radio 2moro and try to put it the alpine then. we were just looking at it 2nite. thanks guys!

its very simple, if you got the wiring harness. just match the colors of the alpine harness and the pigtail harness you got. if you got a metra harness use the orange illumination wire, do not use the orange/white wire.

The Metra kit I bought does not have an orange wire but it does have an orange and white wire and so does the wiring harness on my newly acquired Eclipse AVN726E Nav HU.

If you got a true wiring harness then all you should have to do is plug one end into the trucks radio connections and one into the radio's connection and then plug them together. Most if not all radio harnesses have 2 pieces. One is radio brand specific and the other one is truck brand specific. They then connect together to complete the harness. I hope that makes sense. You shouldn't need to be crimping anything.

metra harnesses come with 2 different illumination wires. orange on the small plug and orange/white on the large plug. mine came that way. the orange/white i believe is a positive illumination signal and i have people frying the rheostat or cluster lights because of using the wrong wire. i used the orange wire in my truck.

That is strange! I have two sets of wire harness, one fom Metra and the other unknown mfg. The Metra has an orange/white stripe wire on the large plug and an orange/black stripe wire on the small one. The unk mfg harness is the same. I am now confused and I do not want to fry anything. Anyone else want to chime in?

you could use some kind of connector like a butt connector

    http://images.google.ca/images?q=bu...ent=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi

or for a better more permanent connection i would use solder to make the connections then wrap them in tape or heat shrink tube.

    either connection method is cheap.
if you have to buy a soldering gun/iron its not as cheap but i bought mine for this purpose and it comes in handy for a lot of stuff especially cuz i like modding my taco.

ok we figured it out and its finally in! The crimping was very easy as well after we went to radio shack and bought a crimping tool and some caps. It looks incredible and i cant wait to see it at night where it will really shine! Ill post a pic soon hopefully

I have a question regarding the illumination wiring on this nav unit. The installation instruction calls out for an orange/white wire to be hooked up to the head light switch (illumination (+)). On the HU unit itself there is a sticker that says orange/white to illumination (dimmer).

On the Metra wiring harness with the large connector there is an orange/white wire labeled (dimmer) and on the small connector there is an orange/black wire but on the Metra instructions it is labeled orange (illumination).

Can anyone help with this installation? This is my last wire to be hooked up and it is holding up my installation

    Thanks.....
