Poor Mans Guide - GPS, Satellite Radio, Ipod/Aux.

I spend a lot of time browsing this forum, but never contribute. So, here I go. I installed a Metra Ipod / Aux. interface into the stock stereo.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ....do?oid=185485

To switch between my ipod and XM radio I press DSC on the radio. Works great! The XM radio unit is a Sportscaster. The orange backlight almost matches the dash lights, and it has a remote. Cost is $20.00 on the XM site with a $20 mir. You can also get 3 months free and free activation.

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthr...uid=0&t=720561

I installed the XM antenna behind the radio and under the dash. The signal strength is better than I expected. I used heavy strength velco tape to secure the receiver in the storage area.

I purchased the TomTom One from Buy.com for 150.00.

http://www.buy.com/prod/tomtom-one-p...205833413.html

I mounted the TomTom suction cub mount above the CD using heavy velco tape. Next, I stuck the suction cup tab between the radio and dash to secure it. I remove the TomTom when ever I park. IMO, the mount doesn’t look like a fancy GPS mount to would be thief’s.

I plan to hard wire the TomTom power cable and XM power cable to free up the auxiliary power slots.

Total Parts:
Metra Ipod Interface – 50.00
XM Radio – 20.00
3 Months of XM Service - Free
TomTom – 150.00
Velco Tape – 3.00

Total Cost – 223.00

I guess I’m a cheap bastard, but I like it….

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/P...oyota%20tacoma <---- has a mounting bracket for Sirius and XM. I am still figuring out where I want to put my antenna. I also have a FM mod I bought as well. They (crutchfield) will give you a master guide on how to install everything.
I am not happy missing stern and bubba while im on the road so hopefully I will figure it out sooner than later.

Good for you...sirius sucks anyway...may as well use this valuable time away from...that shitty guy...and move to XM so you can listen to real radio...

I hard wired my Garmin GPS and also my radar detector. Looks a lot cleaner than having wires running everywhere.

O&A's kinda lame, all they do is rip on stern (I had xm for 3 months) Sirius has better music stations too.You live in FL and dont miss btls? I was in Sarasota for 2 years and became an addict thank god Sirius picked him up. Get sirius dude, you get stern and bubba!

What is BTLS?...and O&A only rip on Stern when it's warranted, other wise they are just purely better radio. And I like the music on XM...

Where did you get the velcro tape? Any suggestions for some tape that won't eventually fall off?

I think I got it a ACE, not sure. You can also buy heavy duty double sided tape at Home Depot. I used it to mount my XM radio under the climate controls. It really holds tight. Plus, if I ever sell the truck, I can easily remove it. Home depot has 2 versions... I got the light duty indoor version.

If everything goes as planned, the merger will be approved before years end. By the middle of next year, all the programming will be sorted out so that O&A will be off of satellite radio and back to boring, old-fashioned, FCC controlled terrestrial radio.

On topic, I have a similar setup in my Prerunner, but am looking for a good NAV system for good money. I would like something with a DVD player, GPS and my 100% commercial free music, and uncensored SIRIUS Satellite.

I did not like the antenna on the roof

I will go ahead and post where I placed my Sirius antenna

Hardwire radar detector

I plan on hard wiring my new beltronics 940 radar detector this weekend if not tonight but I'm not sure which wire I'm suppose to tap into. Isn't it one of the ignition switch wires & if so can anyone tell me what color it is. Any other suggestions would be greatly considered as well.
