In Dash Nav/DVD/BlueTooth/XM/IPhone

Hi everyone, to begin let me stress that I have searched and read many many past topics discussing LCD screens, Nav systems, DVD players, etc. I know, as with all forums, read before you post.

I have a 2010 Double Cab TRD with 700 miles on it. I love it, but I need a Nav system and I need to maintain Bluetooth so I am looking at a few different systems. Ideally I will also have DVD, XM radio, and music/video from my Iphone as well.

I am considering the Kenwood DNX series......any other suggestions?

Is it possible to use the steering wheel controls for stereo and bluetooth with an aftermarket unit? What about the back up camera that came from the factory, any way to have that display on a screen?

Thanks for your thoughts

The pioneer avic-x910bt just picked one of those up after my truck was broken into.

I had the pioneer avic-d3 in mine before and was very impressed by it very easy to use and lots of features. If you order the pioneer avic-x910bt through crutchfield you can get lots of extras with it such as back up camera, ipod cable, install kits, etc.

EDIT: yeah i do believe you will be able to hook up the factory rear view camera to aftermarket head units, and the steering wheel controls will work the head unit

Just ordered an Eclipse AVN726E. I've had eclipse products in the past and always been happy with them, however I wasn't too pleased with their DVD/NAV offerings about a year ago when I went with an AVIC Z3.

I've got an older series Kenwood DDX-512 and love it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the DNX series but I didn't need it since I also have an iPhone which I can use the Nav and music at the same time. My phone is jailbroken so I can run multiple apps e.g. Slacker/Pandora at the same time with Navigon or any other NAV app.

Steering wheel controls will work, you just need the right adapter (SWI-JACK) and some patience for installation and programming. With bluetooth I don't know since I don't have bluetooth with my Taco and just use an earpiece that's always on standy if I get a call. The DDX does come bluetooth ready as with the DNX series I'm guessing since they have more features.

I'm looking fir a nice head unit also. I think I've settled on a kenwood DNX6140. $750 at sonicelectronix. I'm going to order it just after thanksgiving. If you didn't order one by then, I'm sure I write a review for it.

Let us know how it turns out. I am very interested on how it all integrates the the factory steering wheel controls and bluetooth. It would suck if you had to use a different switch and mic for the bluetooth.

I dont know if you know or not but if you order through sonicelectonix you dont get the factory warranty so you will have to go their warranty service and dont know just how theirs is.

I know. I'm a little shady on the sonic warranty also. BUT, for $300 savings, I'm going to take the chance. Plus, other members have used sonic and have mostly good to say.

I'm in the same boat: I like both the

Kenwood DNX 6140 and the

Eclipse AVN726E

The Kenwood has 2 volt preamp outputs and the Eclipse has 4volt. i think 4 is better?

Thanks for the responses and suggestions.

As far as I can tell the built-in XM and Bluetooth systems will not be utilized with any of the options, simply replaced. Great to know steering wheel controls can be matched with a new unit.

Do you guys recommend going to Best Buy for this? Or a local car stereo shop? Or does Toyota do this type of install? I am in Big Sur, CA, about an hour away from the closest grocery store and I would be blindly choosing an install shop. I have never purchased a system like this before.

On another note, this is a great forum. I have learned tons in the few weeks that I have been a Tacoma owner, and this site certainly matches the very fine forum I was a member of prior to the Tacoma, http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/

If you can't do it yourself, I recommend a car audio shop not Best Buy.

anv 726e. Super fast interface. No nonsense. All business. Has built in everything.

I looked at the Pioneer and Kenwood. Both really nice and feature packed but the interface was too childish.

You also dont need a steering wheel interface, and the NAV is completely re-done when compared to the 5000-6000 series eclipse. That was horrible.

I have the pioneer f900bt with pac steering wheel control module and boyo rear view camera. I love the navigation and the bluetooth! Ipod control cable lets me keep ipod plugged up in glovebox out of sight. BUT, pioneer has a glitch with the ipod function and my right side speakers go out on occasion. If I unplug the ipod cable from my ipod for a few seconds then replug they come back on. This is a very bad drawback as I got no help from either pioneer or crutchfield where purchased. On avic411.com there are countless posts of people having the same problem. I really love this hu except for that. The boyo rearview is the best....got it for free with the hu on a crutchfield promo last november. Also I never could get my steering wheel controls to do a couple of functions the factory controls did....still controls volume and changes stations. Mine also came with a free dash kit from crutchfield. Do you have the jbl system? If so you can get an adapter so that you can still use the factory amp. I will have to look up that part number. Sorry to rant, but thats my take on my hu. If I had it to do over again....maybe kenwood???

I have an AVN 6620, I love eclipse but this product is just ok. I'm hoping someone steals it so I can get insurance money and buy the AVN 726E. looks really nice!
