I have a alpine 9872 head unit right now and am planning on getting a boss BV9990 with the flip out touch screen. Is it going to be different hooking the boss HU up compared to my alpine HU. Do I need to get any seperate wiring kits or anything special?

I think you'll need to unplug the wiring harness made for your truck and take out the whole thing. Then, unplug it from the back of the alpine. Once you've done that you need to disconnect the harness that plugs into your truck from the other half and wire it to your new unit's harness. Then plug it in and go.
