In dash Nav steering wheel control adapters

Hey guys, I am looking at getting an in dash nav unit from crutchfield, either the Poinneer AVIC-D3X which is on sale right now for $799 including bluetooh ipod and xm or the Alpine IVA W205. Anyway my question is, is there an adapter out there that will allow the steering wheel controls to work. These units are wired for it but the adapter crutchfield sells is not compatable. I wonder if I got one for a 4-runner if that would work? Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Nevermind, the site was saying that it wasn't compatable with the factory system.

my local electronics dealer says that for an extra $50 he can hook up the steering wheel controls to work with the Avic-D3. I didn't bother with it since he threw in the remote control. Also - don't get XM - Sirius is much better.

Well the XM is free. What dash kit did you use? The one from crutchfiekd is black like yous but it looks kind of flimsy. How does yours hold up? I was thinking of getting the one from Scosche but it $50. Also where did you mount the GPS antenna? I'm not to excited about drilling a hole for the wire.

Did you get the W205? The 505 is gonna be coming out soon and will support Divx and ipod video and will have album covers on ipod music.

all done professionally. no clue where the gps antenna is mounted. sirius antenna is on the molding of the roof - not on paint.

I haven't bought either one yet I'm still deciding. I am also considering where to have it installed, maybe Best Buy. Glad to hear they didn't stick something on your paint but I wonder how they got the wire out there.

don't let Best Buy touch your truck!!!! I had my last system in my last car installed by BB. Everything worked without a problem for 5 years - luckily their wiring didn't cause a fire! They basically charged me for a 4 gauge wiring kit but ended up using spare wire they had in the back. Electrical tape all over / crappy twist and tape connections / incorrect ground wiring... They used good wire on all visible spots, but ran the cheapest crap they could find for the rest... I called to complain - looking just for a new wiring kit and they told me that I have no proof that this is true.... This is what I get though - I knew Best Buy hires kids right out of high school with little to no experience. F Best Buy

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I might have to look for a good custom shop in San Antonio. I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Poineer tonight.
