Benefits of Speakers & Sub Having Their Own Amp vs A Single Amp? (Alpine PDX5)

The questions never cease! Learn as I go...

Im currently sitting on two amps, a mono for my sub (Kenwood 8104D), and a two-channel for my front components (Polk 250.2). Im wondering if I shouldnt return both and go to a single amp (Alpine PDX5 or the like) to run the whole show.

Are there any benefits to each having their own amp?
Are there any benefits to running the two amps vs one?

Any insight would be much appreciated!

 

first the pdx5 would be better simply because you will have front, back and sub. instead of left, right and sub. other than that space is a good benifit of a 5 channel, but if can upgrade you sub amp if you go with two. I myself will be installing a 5 channel someday soon.

 

you probably already saved a little coin with what you have. i have read through reviews on diyma.com that the pdx5 has a weak sub channel. there's also the noise floor problem for the pdx's.

the positive about the pdx series is they look so good, fit well in truck and because of it's size you could upgrade to a second pdx later if you wanted.

if it were me i would go pdx despite the cons i listed. i would rather have one 5 channel then have two unmatching amps.
