Has anyone installed a Pioneer Z110BT?

I'm looking for any tips, hints, or ideas to make my install easier this saturday.

 

Just curious as to why you chose the Z110BT when the new x920BT will be coming out and looks to be pretty cool? I am currently debatting between the two. If you get a chance go to the Pioneer website and watch the short video on the x920BT.
Be sure and take some pictures because I am really interested in how it turns out.

 

I just installed this unit 2 weeks ago. Install went smooth and everything worked first time. Best advice I can give is to take you time. I soldered/shrink wrapped all my connections (including the SWI-PS and bypass mod) the night before and again took my time to make sure everything was wired correctly and to make it as neat as possible.

There really is nothing special about the install, although it's really tight behind the HU. Are you installing additional modules (ie XM, HD radio, etc)? I purchased the HD radio module, but didn't install it yet. I wanted to make sure everything worked first and just ran out of time that day. I am going to install it in the middle console within the next few weeks, along with an amp and sub.

Here's one thing I did find that made the install easier. At first I didn't remove the glove box and tried to fish the GPS cable and BT mic behind it and up through the passenger side dash. It became too frustrating and decided to take out the glove box and try. I was surprised how easy it came out and the install after that was a piece of cake.

One more thing, be sure and use some tape or something to cover your plastic pieces when prying them out. They are incredibly easy to scratch.

Are you just installing the HU, or are you installing speakers/amp/sub as well? Also, are you going to deaden the doors?

Personally I like the clean look of just the 7" display on the Z110BT. I don't like having buttons and the CD/DVD opening visible, although I do like the eco drive of the x920BT. All boils down to personal preference.

I didn't know new models were coming out. My H.U. was a little cheaper than the x920BT and the screen is 7" (the x92BT is only 6.1")

 

The only accessories I'm adding is the Ipod and back up camera w/ my now PopnLock. For now I'm just installing the H.U. Eventually I would like to deaden the cab, install amps and speakers but money is tight (as with most of us.) Thanks for the tips. Where did you end up mounting the BT mic?

 

I ran the cable/mic through the passenger side of the dash, up through the passenger side pillar and mounted it right next to the rear view mirror. I just stuck the cable underneath the headliner. I was a little concerned at first about the location to mount it and running the cable, but it really was very easy. I'll try to take a pic later this evening...

 

Does anyone know if I'm better off splicing the grounds together (from stereo wiring harness to factory harness) or should I ground straight to the chasis behind the stereo? In past installs I've just connected the black grounds together and called it good.

It is likely that Z110BT owners will be able to upgrade their HU to the 'new' software that the x920BT has. Pioneer has done this in the past, so it is likely they will do it with the Z110BT. I'm sure it will have a cost associated with it, but if you were really wanting to go that route it would just be a software update without replacing the whole unit.

It looks like the replacement for the Z110BT will be the Z120BT, but it also looks like it is just the Z110BT with the upgraded software installed.

 

damn that new software is badass. I hope Ill be able to upgrade my z110bt
