ok i just put a new amp to my L5 and the amp will cut out due to lack of power and my headlights dim really bad. the worst i have ever seen an amp and sub do. if i were to put a 2 farad cap would that solve my problem or do i need to go the route of a red top optima battery and get my alternator worked to produce more than the factory 80 amps.

Try the cap first as that is good to have anyhow. What gauge wiring do you run? The right way is to get a worked alternator. If you have a Tacoma with tow package I believe they have a decent battery.

damn, i'm not an audio/electrical guy, but that sound like you're drawing a shit ton of power. maybe the 130 amp alternator that you get with the tow package would help? i'm sure a better battery wouldn't hurt either. how old is the battery?

like i said, i'm not expert, so i hope someone else chimes in. good luck bud

You can get a 2 Farad - 5 Farad on ebay relatively cheap. I would think that should do the trick, but it depends what other accessories you are running. Maybe install the Yellow Top or Die Hard Platinum.

Why spend all the money on everything you listed when you could get a Cap which is the 2nd cheapest fix on the list? Fill the cap and neither the alternator or battery will be working as hard at such a constant rate.

    You might need a capacitor.

I know when I blew my alternator and battery, I replaced the alt. with an OEM one and an Optima Yellow top battery. Then added a 1 F cap, zero problems after that. I would think if OP added a decent sized Cap and maybe a new battery he would be fine.

Just my thoughts, you very well can prove otherwise.

Nah, we're all here to help.

I understand his point of saying the cap still needs to be filled, but it won't be drawing as much as an amplifier would each time.
