I will, I am leaving the power antenna wire unhooked. I'm half done putting connectors on the wires, and will be installing it today hopefully.

Now I just gotta figure out the best way to hook up the reverse wire, but I might wait until I get my camera, and just put it in as is.

Found this thread: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/aud...up-camera.html

The only thing is it is for a 2009, will I be able to use the same wire to splice into for the reverse?

Edit: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/aud...a-install.html

Would there be a way to easily hook the camera up so I can turn it on whenever I want by just selecting the option?

Not sure about the anytime on mod but yes in the first link that is the wire you need for the camera to automatically come on.

Got it all wired up for the most part. I have it installed now. Seems to work fine. Only issues I have is it is a little crooked, and I can't seem to get the trim piece to fit around the unit and still be able to get the whole dash piece over top of everything else. I'm going to leave it as is until I get the rest of my stuff and I'll do it all at once.

Anyone have any suggestions for fixing the trim piece?

It's awesome by the way!

These blue "antenna" wires are what you'd use to send the turn on signal to your amps. Wire it all up and just cap it for later when/if you add an amp.

The install will go pretty straight forward...

Tip: I ran my camera wire along the frame on the driver's side, then up through the rubber boot under the driver's seat. It was a major pain routing it between the frame and fuel tank. Later I realized there's another rubber boot on the passenger side. It would have been much easier to go that route. Maybe I'm just a bonehead, but thought I'd point this out.

What dash kit did you go with? (cue the all out war over which kit is better now)

Either way, whenever you get around to taking the HU out again, make sure all of the wires are nice and neat and not pushing on the back of the HU when it's installed. That was my problem when my dash kit refused to stay clipped in at the top.

I have the metra black textured dash. My wires are kinda jammed in there, I was getting frustrated every time I pulled it out to get a hand in there to push them in better, the antenna kept coming unplugged.

I read about the passenger side grommet, might try that out, thanks for the tip!

Yeah sounds like your problem is definitely the wires, try taping the wires together of each harnesses, that way you have like two little bundles to worry about instead of every wire trying to do it's own thing.

I did that to an extent, but between those two bundles, the gps, and everything else it was getting frustrating, and I figured I had to pull it all out when I do my camera anyway, so I wasn't too worried.

Grounding the wire worked great though, movies play just fine whenever I want them to!

I'm hoping the camera doesn't give me any issues once I get that.

Two quick questions.

I got my camera in the mail today!

Can I just splice the reverse wire coming from the camera control unit, and the reverse wire coming from the back of the kenwood to the same spot behind the kickpanel? I plan on just twisting those wires together, and quicksplicing them into the main reverse wire.

Second, Can I splice the power wire from the camera in with the ignition wire from the back of the kenwood in the harness? Same thing with the ground? So I would have power wires from the kenwood and the camera going into the harness, and grounds from the camera and kenwood, along with the parking brake safety wire into the harness.

Thanks! I'm excited to get this all finished up!

The more I look at this wiring the more I'm confusing myself.

I was hoping to be able to just splice the red power point into the same spot I spliced the headunit into the harness.

I was also planning on splicing the black ground into the harness as well, instead of a metal part.

Then I was gonna twist the reverse wire from the headunit, along with the reverse wire from the camera into the vehicles reverse wire.

Now I don't know!! The instructions say "Do not splice the power supply cable to connect it to the power source of other devices."

Ha, ok, so I got it, talking to myself now, but I just spliced into the harness, like I said. No issues. Camera comes on when I put it into reverse. Now I just gotta figure out how to get it to come on whenever I want to look behind me, independent of reverse.

I'm waiting on my tailgate handle to come in to get it all finished up!

On my 5120 I push and hold the NAV button for a few seconds to get reverse view on demand.

I've tried holding the nav, and holding the aud button. The aud button sends me to a blank screen. I found a setting that says I can either have it come on automatically in reverse, or once in reverse and I push the aud button it will come on. I'm hoping I can find a way to do it by messing with settings.

So where is this rubber grommet on the passenger side? I pulled up the floor boards, and didn't see anything, is it under the carpet?

You are starting from the wrong side. Look under the truck. There is a rubber grommet with wires running into the cab on both sides. Bottom of the cab, outside the frame, pretty much where the front of your seats would be.

btw, I just took another look under mine. There is also a rubber plug near the middle of the cab too. Mine is a dbl cab, so it may vary. I'd be very surprised if there isn't another access point other than drivers side.

I guess, I saw what you are talking about, I just didn't see where it came up through the cab on the inside. Thanks, I'll probably just pull it out, see where it goes.
