my xm trial is about to end and I found info in slickdeals website to get a lower subscription rate than published price.

The regular 1 year rate is $164.24.
call 1-800-998-7900 and ask for a better package and see what you can get.

I signed up for 1 year for $88.78 ($77 + royalty fee), which I think is more reasonable.

I have had XM in my home and vehicles to include my motorcycle for at least a decade. You were smart to find the deal. Also if your a long time customer, with multiple applications, given the economic forecast, I have heard you can sometimes negotiate with XM. They would rather have some income than zero. If enough people dropped XM I believe their cost to you and I would also.

After all its a want not a need, and the first things usually to get the ax in $$ tough times are the wanties. Good for you on the lower rate. Just shows the XM fat can be trimmed no matter how you go about it.

That is right. As long as you did not activate the trial, I have read someone bought a store display from best buy and it went on for 2 years before it was shut down. I made the mistake of going to XM website to register/activate when XM was already pre-activated and working when I got the truck. I think the xm's are pre-activated at the factory, and if end users register it at xm website, then the 3 month trial period kicks in.

assuming you never activated it, you can call in to get 3 month trial when it eventually gets shutdown. you need the 3 month free trial in order to avoid the $15 activation fee.

Well my one year subscription just ended and my renewal statement is for around $45 per quarter. So I called like 3 times begging and pleading to renew at $77 per year rate and xm says they don't do that promo anymore etc etc. So today I called to cancel and xm offered me $77 for one year immediately. Total came to $85.08 (not really sure how they calculate the royalty fee) but it comes to almost $100 savings for the year.

To get the $77 subscription rate you have to threaten to cancel or not renew the subscription, but it's legit. I just renewed mine in early Feb.

You shouldn't contact them until after the subscription ends. Wait until they remember to turn it off.

Renewal time again so I called to cancel and got a half price offer for $94.21 total. I think my regular renewal price is $180+

I'm on third year with xm.

my xm is up for renewal again, but I cancelled this time since I just replaced the head unit with a pioneer avh-x5600.

I've planned on replacing the head unit after the truck warranty expired, I'm glad I did it this year.

The new renewal price for xm now is $172/yr. For those still using xm, you can always call on the last day of your subscription and say you want to cancel, and they will give you the 50% off rate (its 50% off the base rate + royalty) and will save you almost $100.

xm service would have been fine for me at the half price offer, sure it's commercial free, but it is not chitter chatter free. I find the chitter chatter on channel 2 particularly annoying. I now just use pandora on the new head unit, and only get a 30 second commercial from time to time (once maybe twice during my commute) and no annoying mindless chatter.
