iPod Interface???
Hello, I first want to say I LOVE my truck! But enough gushie talk.... Time to get Macho.
I have had my truck for a few months now and really want to install an iPod Interface into the back of my stock stereo. I don't want to do any aftermarket stereo's or anything like that, I just would like to run my iPod through the back of my stereo. How do I do this? I mean what interface or cable, or whatever, do I need???? I'm a noob with the whole stereo terminology. This is what I would like to do. http://homepage.mac.com/ebones/PhotoAlbum13.html By plugging this interface into the back of the stereo, do I loose any functions? For instance, playing cd's or anything. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gary

There's many different options and a lot of information out there already.
If you search this forum, other toyota forums, and google....you'll find lots of information. For instance: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=tacoma+ipod I'm running the ipod2car unit. It's a direct hookup to the stereo via the CD port. I bought it off ebay. I have the 6disc CD changer and the steeringing wheel controls work. You can't select music or playlists using this unit - you have to do that on your ipod.

Usaspec Pa15
It seems you & I are thinking of the same thing, but I haven't got my truck yet
- another 6 weeks ![]() .Based on other threads, I found USASPEC and emailed them to see if their PA15TOY was was I wanted. They replied "Yes use the PA15 TOY for this vehicle, steering wheel controls will work." There is a Toyota OEM interface, but I can imagine it isn't cheap. The PA15TOY is $169 list. |

And if you want to save some money and don't mind using the iPod to change songs the Metra adapter is only $50. This is the device I use. They all install very easily. As Janster said just search the Audio/Video forum for any of these device names and you will find plenty of info.

Thanks
I did that initially in my 4Runner, but I was always worried I'd forget the iPod and end up with a broken window. I bought a radio (Panasonic?) which worked with an external iPod interface ($125) so I could control through the radio and permanently conceal the iPod inside the dash.
I don't think I could transfer that radio into the Tacoma (when I get it ) because of the funky dash. But I really like the idea of keeping the iPod out of sight. I travel with a second unit. I also installed a number of USB ports for charging, etc., phones, since I make a point of only buying stuff I can USB charge. Thats easy to do but I haven't explored it yet. This will be easier when I get her ... |
