New radio installed - Pioneer DEH-P7900BT

My girlfriend bought an 08 Tacoma DoubleCab recently and have been complaining incessantly about the sound system. So, I've been lurking on this forum and reading the "how to's" and the reviews on different systems.

With the knowledge I've gained from here, I installed the following today:
- Pioneer DEH-P7900BT
- Ipod Adapter Cable
- Schoshe Silver Dash + Wiring harness ($36 shipped BTW)

Last week, I replaced her stock speakers with 2 pairs of the Pioneer 6-1/2" TS-1672 .

I just wanted to say "thanks" and also share a few pics that I took during the install.

The "before" pic:

Radio removed:

I wanted her to be able to store her Ipod in the storage area below the radio. I used a Dremel to enlarge one of the holes at the back of the storage compartment and ran the Ipod cable through it.

Here's the Ipod cable fully retracted:

Everything installed and Ipod connected:

Here's a short clip of the motorized face:

The included mic for the Bluetooth has a small platform/holder and I put that on the steering wheel column facing toward the driver.

Everything works great, sounds great and she's extremely happy. The only thing we've found is that though the Bluetooth works, it does not want to transfer the Phone Book from either of our Motorola phones. I think I've read somewhere that Motorola doesn't allow transfer of its Phone Book data.

Future plans are to install some sound reducing pads like b-quiet or Dynamat and also a subwoofer plus amp.

Again, thanks for all of the great info here!

bluetooth

Nice setup! I have the same HU in my TACO.
I love the unit; but like you, I am unable to transfer my phone book from my Samsung phone....
If you decide to get a sub and amp; look into a sub box from supercrewsound.com. I got a single box, and built an amp rack.
keep it goin'!

I just installed a double-din JVC with Ipod and bluetooth. The system paired the phone instanly and did download my phone numbers from my motorola razr. It also will display text messages on the JVC screen, and carried over the voice activated calling from the phone. Dunno know why yours won't, I think it should, it kinda defeats the purpose of having hands free.

I was able to transfer the phone numbers!

Reading all of the previous posts, guess I'm a dummy on not figuring out how to transfer the numbers when I first installed the radio.

Well, the 7900BT instruction manual is generic about the phone number transfer from your cellphone to the head unit's Phone Book.

Here's what I found on "how to" transfer the phone numbers from our Motorola RAZR and RIZR phones. You have to add each contact individually as it won't auto transfer all the numbers in the cell phone contact list to the head unit's Phone Book.

- Before you start this, make sure that your phone is registered with the head unit. Instructions in the manual are pretty clear on how to do that.
- Establish the Bluetooth connection between your phone and the head unit
- On the head unit, press the blue phone button
- Use the Multifunction Knob (MF) and scroll right until you get to the Phone Book Transfer screen.
- For us, as soon as we clicked on the MF to transfer contacts, the connection between the phone and head unit is cut off. No worries - Leave settings here.
- Now on your phone, pull up your Contact List.
- Choose your first contact that you want to transfer and then click Options on your phone.
- Scroll down to Send Contact, click on it, and then click Bluetooth.
-
Your phone will verify that the contact was sent and your head unit will indicate that also.

The system is pretty snazzy once you get all of the "moves" down pat.

Hope this can help someone in the future that installs a Pioneer unit and want to transfer phone numbers from their Motorola phone.

Nice Job, Dave!
Does the steering wheel controls still work?

My big question is, where do you get the dash panel to replace the one you removed? What does it cost?

My gf's Dbl Cab does not have steering wheel controls, so can't answer that.

I posted the links as to what instructions I followed to swap out the speakers and radio and also the site where I bought the dash kit and wiring harness here:
