    Just what I'm thinking. My roof lights are just 2in shorter than my antenna but my antenna just barely hits my garage door. If I just cut off an inch from the top it would clear the garage and I would still be able to tell if something is not gonna clear my lights.

    Cutting down the stock antenna will definitely affect reception. antennas are designed to match the wavelength of the radio signals. You may not notice it if you have good radio stations in your area.
