I spend a lot of time in my truck and am looking for the best system under 2K which has the following:
    - touchscreen 2-din
    - bluetooth
    - very good navigation
    - CD
    - DVD
    - I-Pod compatible
    - compatible with controls on Tacoma steering wheel

Truck 2008 TRD 4X4 Double Cab

I have been looking at the Alpine offerings but hear their nav sucks. The Kenwood (not sure of the model) is running $1200 installed but no bluetooth.
The Eclipse looks OK but I don't like how it used a Tom Tom for nav. I want something that DOES NOT need to have the DVD in the drive to use the nav- that sucks. Any help and specific models to look at would be great!

    Thanks

    Kenwood DNX8120!

Integrated Parrot BT, integrated Garmin Nuvi GPS (on SD card not DVD), and all the usual DVD, iPod, backup-camera features. I just installed one last week, and aside from a UI that's a little unpolished, all of the features work great. I paid about $1200 at cartronixplus.com and installed it myself.

I looked at this one today. It is nice but Car Toys wants like $1950 out the door including installation. That seems kinda pricey. It does look like the best one so far.

My logic was it's not worth it to pay over $1k for something with crappy GPS, so it was all or nothing. The Garmin software is great. If you don't want to do the install yourself I can totally see how that would be a limiting factor.

If you want good nav Poineer makes the best.
it is not GPS only like portable unit..
It uses a VSS signal as well... This means it has 2 modes of input...

Valor has some new unit coming as well with Bluetooth.. Dual may as well they use the same factory to have there unit made...

Personaly i use navmate software by Horizon Navigation. that is sold on Dual, Valor, OEM units as well as Some jeson units..

i see more nav than most...

I goota go with the 8120 got mine from 6ave electronics for 1088 shipped. I installed last week along with a Boyo vtl300 back up cam off of ebay for 149 shipped, I am very pleased with the unit and I dont think it is that hard to get used to the user interface play with it for a few hours and you'll have it figured out.

I am going with the 8120. Now, I just need to find the best deal. Do the steering wheel controls still work after you installed it? They were charging me like $60 extra to make that work and said I needed a separate harness, etc...

I got the 8120 and had it installed today. It is great so far. The I-pod integration is awesome and the nav is very nice. I went with the black mounting bracket instead of silver and it looks good.

Great! Glad you like it. Where did you have the hands-free mic located? How is the call quality?

The black looks good IMO although the plastic itself looks kinda cheap. I have the TRD seat covers so black is a major color in my cabin. I didn't think the grey matched perfectly so I think it may look a little "off" versus going with black.

Hello 8120 lovers! I want to upgrade my Valor 650 to Kenwood 8120, have few questions: While on the phone conversation (thru Bluetooth) you still see navigation map? (on Valor 650 you can't see nav. map)
Is 8120 will start rear camera automatically after you switch to reverse?
And how to connect two extra wires (black and red) i have Boyo VTL300...
    Thanks!!!

The phone display pops up automatically, but I can press the NAV button to view the GPS while on a call.

The rear cam does come on automatically, but it needs to be configured as such in the setup menus. The default does not auto activate it automatically. The purple wire from the Kenwood and the red wire from the camera should be connected to a reverse signal somewhere. (I used a purple-ish wire under the dash based on another post somewhere). The black camera wire is just ground.
