I have a kenwood excelon 5 channel amp that I'm going to be running my front and rear speakers off of which I already purchased. My question is my remaining channel on the amp is for the sub-woofer and it is rated at 350 watts RMS at 2 ohms and I still need to purchase a sub-woofer. What sub-woofer would you guys recommend for me to buy and looking to spend about $300. I think I would like a 12" in a ported box but am open to ideas. I have an access cab Tacoma and am not worried about how big the box will be. The more bass the better!

I personally like JL audio. I have a 12W1v2 and it kicks pretty damn hard lol. But if your willing to spend $300 then you should get a 12w3v3. Thermal handling power is 500w. I think they're $260 on JL's website. Check it out!

JL W3 ftmfw!! Seriously tho they are great subs I promise you that if you buy one and put it in a good box you will not be sorry. They have great SQ and hit hard even if the box is a little too small or big, they are very versatile subs.

Thanks for the replies, I definitely like JL Audio I am just hesitant to what my amp will be able to push. I'll definitely look into that JL 12w3 though. I've also been looking at kicker, they seem to have some nice subs! It's funny how i start off just wanting to upgrade my headunit and now look at me I going the distance and will be tearing out my entire interior so I can sound dampen the cab and run all the necessary wires. What have I got myself into, lol!

What everyone is forgetting is that my 5 channel amp for the sub is only putting out 350 watts RMS so I don't think it will push two 10's or two 12's. Let menknow if you guys think I'm wrong. I'm looking for a sub that will be good for the amp I already have.

The Kenwood XR series has been independently bench tested to produce rated or higher power.

Same thing with the Pioneer digital 4 channel, and many other small amps out now (not the Arc XXDs, FYI)

still, wont be getting 350 watts, thats like saying your tacoma gets 236 hp at any given rpm...if you wire your sub for a 2 ohm load to get the 350 watts, you must factor in impedance rise, voltage drop, and so forth...Real companies rate their amps at 12 volts, not 14.4

theres waay too many factors playing in

    Cool story bro...

Of course, you understand that no amp puts out full power at all time, even your beloved JL - right?

But then, I am not hanging on the JL sack, so I am not up on the internet arguments about how they are "real" vs. other companies.

I always just look for a good product at a good price. But thats why I sold my 9 channels of JL slash amps to go another route.

That jump cost me a few extra bucks, thats for sure. But I got a much better product, and havent looked back. If a JL amp fits the bill, I would go that route. If another company that puts out rated power and fits the install criteria, there I am.

No reason to put down quality goods, or an individuals choice based on your brand whoring though.

Depending on what your listening style is, you may want a 10" sub instead of a 12". When you have a fast bass beat and you crank up a 12, theres a slight delay because they're bigger. Awhile back, I had 2 JL 12w3's and don't get me wrong, I love them. I hit 143db in a drag with them, but when you try to listen to DnB, it sounds like crap.

Currently I'm running a single 10 Rockford Fosgate shallow sub, rated for 400 watts. I'm pushing it with a JL 250/1. I love it, coupled with my mid-bass drivers I just installed today, theres no 'gap' in the bass response and no delay..... and it still renders my mirrors useless. Enough for me!

I have the option of running a second amp, I'll just have to take it out of my fiancé car and install it in my Tacoma. I'm just not sure if I want to install a second amp? I'm worried by having that second amp I'll have problems with the lights dimming from to much power being drawn. I do have a capacitor that I could install and if I install both amps should I install the capacitor before both amps or only the amp that's powering the subwoofer? Do you guys thing installing the 5 channel kenwwod amp under the drivers seat would be ok or will it get to hot? I'm trying to figure out where to install everything.

2 amps would open up your options, but the Kenwood should be fine for most single sub setups. Even if you go a pair of 8" (that are not DD, or Sundown SA series, etc) it should do well. If you choose to run 2 amps, sell the kenwood 5 channel and get a 4 channel (or 2 channel, depending on your needs) and a mono amp. No reason to have the 5 channel with channels not being used, unless you just want to keep the amp.

Kenwood makes a 4 channel and mono in the same class. I liked my JL XD amp with all the connections on one side, and the HD is available at a lot higher cost.

The Arc XXD/CV Stealth + a few others are decent small amps that can be found cheap. Same for the Pioneer 4 channel

Under the seat is fine, a lot of people run them there.

    Capacitor should not be needed.

indeed a cool story, but what most people dont realize is theres more than power output that makes a good amplifier. I just feel sorry for all the people that nut hug JL. Its pretty much like buying a top dollar hooker and only gettin a hander
