I have two USB thumb drives. A Sony Media Vault 16 GB and a Lexar 4 GB. Both are formatted FAT32. Both are formatted with the same allocation block size of 4096 B. Both were programmed by the same laptop using Win7.

The Sony stick returns USB ERROR or ERROR 5 or endless blinking LOADING depending on conditions. Start truck in USB mode yields different results than switching from RADIO to AUX (USB) both with Sony stick installed.

The nice thing about the Sony Media Vault is that it is small. 1.25" x .75" sticks out.

The Lexar stick works great, but is out of space. It is one of those drives that has the flip around cover and is 2.5 to 3 inches long. Hard to remove when the shifter is in park.

I do not mind buying another stick. I just want to make sure I buy a stick that works.

    Thanks!

What do you mean by a "USB extension?" A USB extension cable?

Which brand USB thumb drive did you get? Do you have a model number or name? How much FLASH memory? How big is it physically?

    Thanks,

I used a super talent 8 GB. It is about 2 inches long by 1/2". The ones that didn't work was the older 1 gb.
